What Happened to this E90-1 Cy Young

Let's have a poll to see what members think of this bottom border.

It does "look" like a possible trim, but I suppose it could also be the edge of the original sheet. I've seen several T205 Mathewsons over the years, that also seem to have this same issue.

That border doesn't bother me nearly as much as the "sandpaper" effect going on on Cy's face. Cy might want to try the Phantom of the Opera's mask ;)

It doesn't make much sense to trim a card that is still in such poor condition.

Dave might disagree with you.

Hey there Leon! :)

"Trimmed!"

Although i'd like to have it in hand to get the best look at it...

Wit dat sed,
i never look at "Why" or "When", it's the Stock Product that matters the most!
Weather it was done last week by some Knucklehead or 100 years by a lil collector to get in his book, really is not the issue...

The back bottom has the 'Lightened White Wavy Cut' look to it,
And this is a Bright Red Flag fir me.

And i Really Like Trimmed Cards... Especially E90-1's :)

My guess would be trimmed by a collector 3 or 4 decades ago to fit into sheets. Lew Lipset auctioned a large collection of E-cards 15-20 years ago that the collector (Don McPherson) had trimmed either at the top or bottom so that they would fit better into sheets that were designed for slightly shorter T-cards.

too much cleaning with pantyhose??

This might be the answer however I can safely say that a vintage card can not be natural and have such rounded corners on top and such clean borders on bottom. That doesn't happen with normal wear (that I am aware of.) I am surprised by anyone who thinks it's ok. I suggest they keep researching and studying cards before they buy vintage.

Why would it have wear post-trimming if it was cut down to get into a sheet?

Looks to me like it had natural wear, then the bottom was trimmed, leaving that one unnatural side.

I have seen a few cards with nice corners on one end or side and wear on the edge opposite. But very few. It takes decades in a box with added vibration.

It wouldn't have to have post trimming wear. That is the point. It is trimmed. Helen Keller could see it. Anyone who voted it is ok is either a PSA shill or really doesn't understand vintage cards.
