The back says Wagner - I think that is wrong.
It does look like Tinker. Dressed to the Nines doesn't show this exact uniform combo for anyone from 1900-1920, but the 1909 Cubs fits --- except for the socks. Andrew A is fairly confident that the photo was taken at the Polo Grounds in 1911 or after because it seems to show white box seats (added to the PG in 1911). Any thoughts??? |
My thought is that it isn't Wagner.

I can't say the player is Tinker, although the physical build is similar. No way the player is Wagner.

Right, well that seating was part of the structure when it was rebuilt following the 1911 fire.

Jobu and I agree it’s definitely NOT Wagner.

Thanks Ken, I think you've nailed it with 1913 Pirates road uniforms. Simon looks good but his ear seems to be quite a bit bigger than the guy in the photo's, though that could be a bit of perspective at play. We can definitely rule out my Tinker guess though, so that is progress! Thanks!

That is a great shot of his arms. No wonder he could hit.
