T205 with a wrong back???
Here's a new one for me. I know blank backs exist, but was curious if anyone has ever seen another T205 with a wrong back before? I was just going through a stack I picked up a little while ago and noticed this Jack Murray has a Peaches Graham back.

Wow, doesn't look skinned and rebacked either.
|
Scott, being rebacked was my first thought as well, but it shows no signs of being rebacked to me.

Bottom of that back is Murray. Looks like the Peaches top was pasted on.

I have a T205 that is very similar. I will have to dig it out and scan and share.

Thanks Aaron, I think you are right. Looking at it again it looks like the pasted area at the top is Graham and the bottom is Murray. The pasted area doesn't quite go to the edges which is why it doesn't appear rebacked from the edges.

crap, good catch.
|
It's also why the heavy crease through the middle matches up perfectly like it rarely does on a re-back.
|
Another giveaway is the second red border at the top. The top of the Graham paste-over is lower than it should be if it were real.
Edited to add: The card in the OP has 14 full lines of type, with a partial 15th. A real Graham has 17 full lines, with a partial 18th. A realy Murray has 16 full lines, with a partial 17th. Steve |

Aaron and Chris B. detected this fake quickly....the Stats are Murray's. And so is the bio from "been deadly as.....tional League". The upper half is George Graham that was pasted onto this T205. TED Z T206 Reference . |
The question for me would be when and why the pasteover?
The back that was added was miscut, and would probably have sold easily even when backs and errors weren't a big deal. And until fairly recently a wrong back wouldn't have brought a huge premium. So why? Repairing scrapbook damage with whatever was at hand or with a bit of a card that was pasted in so the back showed? There was a bunch of T206s that went through ebay some time ago that were similar. All showed back damage, but some had a second back, somewhat see through over the regular back. I'd thought they were reversed, or the back of a second card from a scrapbook, but both read correctly. And there was no sense to it at all, most were P350 over P350, so not like someone was rebacking with tougher backs. |

That situation kind of sucked. :(

Bottom Stats are Murray! Even a Schlitz drinker could see that !
First 2 experts confirm for us it had not been rebacked! Classic |
