TPG Card Holders Heat Threshold
Does anyone happen to know the temperature that graded card holders are compromised in heat/fire?
Looking at getting a new gun/collectibles safe. I know cardboard can ignite at temps above 450 but was curious about the TPG cases. |
I don't know the specific type of plastic used for the slabs but this chart gives you some idea of the temperature ranges to avoid.
Good news is the chart is in Celsius meaning you can just about double the numbers for Fahrenheit. Bad news is there is likely at least some reactivity between plastic and cardboard even at room temperature.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...d6a6041ac0.jpg Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |
If you have a very low $ PSA slab put it in you oven for a few minutes. I done this as a test once and I cant remember the exact temp anymore but it was very low and after a few minutes the slab twisted up and ruined the card inside.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the info and feedback.

With that said I wouldn’t trust a slab..:)

PSA and SGC slabs are Crystal Polystyrene.
I believe I was told BGS uses Polycarbonate, much more durable. |
