You said players, but did not state baseball. I included this signature in the thread I started on the signatures of athletes who were casualties of war:

Clayton Mansfield. He competed in Modern Pentathlon at the 1932 Olympics, but did not medal. He graduated from West Point in 1928. Originally in the cavalry he turned to tank warfare, studying it at Fort Knox. In August, 1944 he was sent to Europe where he was chief of staff of the 2nd Armored Division. In December he was promoted to regimental commander of the 66th Armored Division. He was leading that regiment when he was struck by enemy fire during the Battle of the Bulge on January 9, 1945. He died later that day shortly after receiving the silver star on the field for gallantry.

Check me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Teddy saw conflict overseas, unlike fellow pilot Jerry Coleman. I know both were in Korea, but during WW2, I thot Teddy only served as stateside flight instructor.

He was almost shot down in Korea (that’s where the story of him landing a plane rather than bailing out, to save his knees, came from). He was John Glenn’s wingman for a while.

Two service members with brief Major League Baseball experience were killed, according to the New York Times: Elmer Gedeon of the Washington Senators and Harry O’Neill of the Philadelphia Athletics. Harry only played in 1 game in 1939. Tristar issued this card of Elmer Gedeon. I couldn't find a card of Harry O'Neill.

Ill second this. I lived in SD for awhile and travel back for business regularly so I appreciate this one.

Only MLB player to fly combat missions in two wars. The second of which was after being a rookie of the year. 4x World Series champ as a player.

Yankees announcer in the 60s.
