I think this is the most colorful 1941 Play Ball card.

Hi Jack No, I never met Vince. Met Joe and Dom. Had a really nice conversation with Joe at a BB card show (1985). TED Z T206 Reference . |

Not Vince unfortunately, but Dom's book about the 1941 season signed on one page by key participants in the 1941 season and then, Dom, Joe and Ted on another page.

Paul (& everyone else),
Excellent stuff here. As I understand it, all the boys--but especially Vince--could really sing! |

Here are some fine Vince DiMaggio images from my collection. My favorite is the one with Lavagetto in '38. The one on the left is the art proof for the card (on the right) I had to reduce the image sizes and they look a little pixelated here, but the essence is there.

This one is from late 2015. I just rediscovered this one while searching for the others. I like how serious they look...

Tim,
I love that card. It's funny how you can like a card an exceptional amount for years and then discover other folks like it just as much! He seems like a good guy. Friendly face, etc. Phil |
These guys were my grandfather's (Joseph James DiMaggio) cousins. He used to tell a lot of fun stories about them even though they'd never actually met and grew up on opposite sides of the country. Apparently one side of the family DiMaggio did not like the other side of the family DiMaggio, due to some not so wonderful associates of Italian descent. Was never told which side was which; but I always had my money on the side who ended up marrying Marilyn as the fun one.

Joe,
My $ is with yours. Phil |

By today's "modern player" HOF voting standards...you can probably toss Dom's name in the hat. He had a heck of a career, military service, and his "defensive metrics" (insert eye roll) would stack up quite well to his peers. I'm not sure most folks realize he was a heck of a player for a pretty good stretch.
