BST Question

Always curious when I see people on BST looking to buy cards they really aren’t hard to come by. Like cards I see in auctions frequently. I wonder what the thought process is. I will get it below market from a fellow board member? Someone on board will be motivated to sell quickly to raise cash and will give a good price? Or maybe folks who just don’t use AHs at all?

I think both of those reasons are possible. You buy the card from an auction outside of eBay and you’re in many cases waiting weeks to get it. I think you are also inclined to possibly get a better deal on the Byselle thread especially around big auction time when people are trying to free up cash. I’ve always thought buying from fellow collectors on the Buy/sell thread right before a Robert Edwards or heritage ends is a great strategy to get something at a better price.

It's mostly pricing for me.
Now even more so with most of the auctions and ebay charging sales tax.

I can offer a price on a card less than what I would pay an auction, but still more than what the seller would clear after fees.

As a seller you can get a guaranteed price without fees.

Therefore sellers more motivated to give reasonable prices.

That's how I see it at least.

Same. Cut out the middle man, and the buyer and seller can both be better off than they would with eBay or an auction house. Makes most sense for the most common cards. Just look up what they go for on eBay and buy/sell one for slightly less here.

I don’t buy off of auctions. I limit my sources of purchase as it helps me narrow my focus and budget. So the bst is my major mode of purchase.

Not to mention the experience I mean look what’s going on on the other thread with that ridiculous crazy uncle auction who wants to deal with bullshit like that? It’s quick it’s easy it’s personal and you get a better deal it’s a win-win for everyone!!

I have made hundreds of purchases and trades on the BST section. I actually find a lot of really cool odd ball stuff.

I will say it is definitely buyer beware because I have had a LOT of very sketchy deals happen to me on there. To be fair there are also a lot of great people on there I really enjoy dealing with.

One drink too many. Sounds like a country song.

His actions (quoting sales) for posterity purposes, in the BST areas, were deemed not allowable some time ago. No mas for those.....

Now we have a guy asking if a sale actually happened and if so the price it sold for.:D

I don't read every BST thread.
If it is in a BST thread then that is not allowable. If members will PM me or another moderator (I am here more than the others) then it will be taken care of.....

I like to come here and buy. For one, it seems people on this site are more trustworthy and knowledge and not going to be out to take your money and run. It seems that way.

Also, if I can pay 10% less to buy it on here, then I'll do that. Or at least offer to do that. Some people would rather not sell it here for whatever reason. So be it. But in my experience, you can get some stuff cheaper on here because sellers aren't dealing with fees.

A third thing is a seller knows they're going to get paid right away and not have to wait a week for an auction to end and then another week or 2 to get paid. If I'm looking for somethhing, someone has it and contacts me, they're usually paid that day. With ebay, the auction runs 7-10 days, then you wait a week or so for payment.

So with cheaper price since no fees and quicker payment, it's really a win-win to buy and/or sell here on the BST.
