Pre-rookie Jeter signed bat - 1993 Greensboro Hornets
 

I ran across this bat that I got Derek Jeter, and one of his teammates named Nick DelVecchio, to sign during the 1993 Greensboro Hornets baseball season in 1993. I had forgotten that this item existed, it was in a closet at my parents' house.

The bat is a game-used by DelVecchio. Obviously it would be better if the signatures were in blue or black, but I didn't know any better as a child.

Any thoughts on value?

Jeter autos are nuts. Assuming the bat is cool, idk a grand maybe? Really cool piece

It's a great autograph but a tough item overall IMO.

It would have been worth more if it was signed by just Jeter and in a better position (and obviously on a better model bat). I would value it in the low hundreds.

Here's my observation on Derek Jeter autographs in the marketplace...

I will never understand how his modern-day 2016-2019 Topps autographs sell for more than his vintage autographs the majority of the time.

That puzzles me.

As for the Jeter signed bat posted by the OP; it won't bring the value that it should because of the other autograph on the bat, and the placement of the autograph.

I figured that the color of the signature, its placement and the fact that there is another autograph on the item would have an impact.

I suspect there are purists who would disagree, but I'll throw it out there...

The other autograph has no value from a financial or historical perspective. Frankly, I'd remove it because it only detracts. Aesthetically it would be much more pleasing and display better. Also, it is far away enough from the Jeter where there is no risk of damaging the Jeter sig in the process. A little Goof Off on a clean cloth should remove it easily.

Steve: I disagree the reason is it is a Delvecio bat. So having his signature on his game used bat I would argue is 100% fine. Getting Jeter is a great extra. I also dont think removing his auto would add any value to the bat. The immortal words it is what it is come to mind. Enjoy the bat and thanks for sharing.

+1 I wouldn't remove the other auto. If you are selling and the new owner wants it removed let them. It is super easy, I recently removed a "to Susan" from a Wade Boggs bat.

I would also agree with the guess of the value being in the lower hundreds.

Completely agree - this would increase the value of the bat IMO. There's not much tying the bat to the other guy as it isn't branded with his name/signature.

Right.. that was my thinking. It would be different if the barrel was stamped with DelVecchio's name.

If it were mine I'd remove the signature. Not sure anyone is interested in it.
