Quick Chantilly Review

Hadn’t been to the CSA show in Chantilly for a while but dragged the wife and dog to it on Saturday afternoon. We were only there for a couple of hours midday but here’s some impressions: first, not very crowded at all (Nationals playoff game didn’t start till 4, 3:30 pregame show), but still seemed oddly sparsely attended; second, generally, but for large AH displays and a few dealers with lots of T206s, there was a very noticeable disparity between graded and raw cards, with more raw cards being offered for sale than I can ever remember seeing, since the advent of the TPG era; and, third, prices for purchasing graded cards were as high as ever.

Met Jack (?) Probstein and chatted gossipy stuff in an aisle while he petted my dog. Is it old news that Moser and Brent are being indicted? Not sure who knows what anymore.

I like that show for the signers.

Investigated or indicted? That would be news to me that there are actual charges being filed. And probably you mean Rick Probstein unless you're talking about a family member.

Anyone have a PACER account to verify?

Agreed! I usually go for the signers as well. It’s still a nice show to walk around. I went to the spring show and it was MUCH more crowded. Could have had something to do with all of the Dallas Cowboy autograph guests, but I was talking to one of the dealers and he said October is usually the slowest of the three throughout the year for whatever reason.

Jack is Rick's dad and a regular at shows.

Maybe there was a birthday party still going on?:D

I only live 25 minutes from the Expo center, but due to the lack of baseball guests of interest, I have not attended the last two shows. I was wondering how Charlie Sheen fared.

I didn't go this show because of family obligations, but I always shop, chat with Chandy Greenholt, buy a few things from bargain boxes and spend most of my money with William Chappel.

CSA is a good show. Usually very organized. It is more of an autograph extravaganza but I think the dealers do okay. I saw Mr. Mint there once, front an center but I guess nothing major walked in, because he never returned. Same with 707 cards, I only saw them there once maybe twice. The new crew is heavy on the football guests (which I understand) but a show date outside of the baseball season is sorely needed.

As I understand it, themed football gatherings are the closest thing to guaranteed money.

Cowboys and Steelers fans do come out in droves. Football is clearly king. All I ask is that the promoter throws the baseball collectors a decent bone or two. The previous owner (Marco) did a great job of managing to get the current induction class to appear during the year.

I very much liked the reconfiguration Joe D. did of the floor space where the dealers set up. It gave this area a somewhat new, refreshed look. IMHO, the old configuration had grown stale. I only attend on the Fridays, so I don't pay attention to the floor area set up for the weekend guest signers.

Well Val, prepare for major change next year.

I have PACER. There is no current federal case against anyone named Probstein or against PWCC. If there is a full name for PWCC I could check that, but nothing under that.

Thank you Michael. Maybe anything under Huigens in Oregon or Gary Moser in New York?
