1916 Ruth RC lol
ouch! someone has no eye and too much money.
noob tip: if a seller is selling video games and a 100k raw card it’s probably fake. https://www.ebay.com/itm/BABE-RUTH-1...p2047675.l2557 |
What on the card makes you believe it is a fake?
|
perfectly rounded corners
horrible print, you can’t see the babes face... way too dark. upper right black boarder does not connect, just like the $2 fakes on eBay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Babe-Ruth-R...oAAOSw4aRdKlzq |
This isn't going to end well for the ebayer thinking they got a steal.
The fact that 14 of the top 16 bidders had 0 feedback is a yellow flag. The last real bidder had a bid of 99 bucks and was probably sweating a bit to be out bid. But that 0 feedback bidder, after him, took it from 99 bucks to 11k LOL...kind of greedy if you ask me....hope the winner likes their new novelty card. LOL.... https://www.ebay.com/bfl/viewbids/15...p2047675.l2565 . |

Dark face is not a killer. However, I agree that will probably end poorly, I just don’t see signs that tell me with certainty that the card is bad.

The days are long gone when you could easily tell fakes by the large white gap between the border and picture. It is scamming 102 now.. ..and those bids after 99 bucks are not very reassuring. |
The original poster made it seem like there was an obvious trait that made the card bad. I did not see one. Do I think it is good-no, but that is from factors outside the image. Dark happens, even symmetrically rounded corner can theoretically happen. I agree that is many cases you just can’t tell from the image. However, doesn’t PSA have a buyer protection plan so if the card is not legit they will reimburse the buyer if the seller does not?

I guess anything can theoretically happen. I was recently told that by someone concerning a card I have. They said well, maybe it is the first card ever done like that. I said "maybe". |
My bad-I meant EBay buyer protection plan

I was more interested in the Berenstein bears book he sold for $2.

like any business they do not want to be on the hook for thousands of dollars. i’ve dealt with high value claims and trust me they are completely dense when it comes to sports cards. |

If they act quickly and send it to PSA - they can get it back in a couple of weeks - in time to file a case. Of course they will be out either 500 or 1000 for the 1 day grading fee.
The top one is from the auction. To me the 151 font looks off. Not to mention the stock color. Attachment 367994 Attachment 367995 Attachment 367996 |
Why would a guy with nearly 8000 Feedback risk $11K on a deal that is obviously just "too good to be true"?
I cant imagine anyone trying to sell a legitimate Ruth RC that is NOT in a PSA/SGC slab. |

With this card in particular, there are things that raise my suspicions. First, I would never purchase a card like this ungraded and/or off ebay. There are way too many fakes and scammers. Secondly, a blacklight helps, but so does a gram scale and knowing what to look for in the ink.
The bidding itself is suspect. I thought at first a shill -the bidder with the (0) and that could be, but the guy who ended up with the final bid should have put a little more thought into it. Looks sketch and I'd watch the seller's past and future activity. |
maybe the buyer of this card will be on the net54 thread about doing a too good to be true deal that turned out great......
|
That's a hefty donation to the Kansas City Children's Mercy Hospital. Should've just sent the entire $11k to them, instead of 10% while the scammer gets 90%.
