September Pick Ups
8 Attachment(s)
September has started well for me. I'm certain I'm the only collector in the world who is thrilled by original photos of Murtaugh, Tavares, Clines and thier ilk. Nonetheless, I picked up this nice grouping and couldn't be happier. Thanks for indulging me.

Cool scorecard with Federal League scores, etc. Also happens to be the day George "Iron" Davis throws a no-hitter for the Miracle Braves during their September run. It was 1 of his only 7 career wins! |

Here is a nice example of Iron Davis's autograph. |
Very cool, Scott! As a fellow Buffalonian, I had to have it. If only Warren Spahn's memorabilia wasn't so expensive (comparatively).

1919 Cincinnati Reds
3 Attachment(s)
I usually don’t post my pick-ups, but I love this one. I actually got it in Chicago early last month and I am just posting now.
It is the original mock-up of the 1919 World Champion Cincinnati Reds players used for the 1920 Spalding National League guide. They are all type 1 Charles Conlon photos. I seem to have an aversion to larger items and I had to make an exception for this one. It is 20” x 13.5”. |

With thanks to Huggins & Scott, I received a few more m114s to bring my total up to 1036. The Mantle is the third different pose that I am aware of in the set.

The Pirates started an all Black lineup, the first in MLB history. I do not follow baseball, but I remember this being mentioned on this site before, probably by 71buc. That lineup, which took the field on September 1, was Rennie Stennett, Gene Clines, Roberto Clemente, Willie Stargell, Manny Sanguillén, Dave Cash, Al Oliver, Jackie Hernández, and Dock Ellis.

Thanks for the kind words. On page 3 after Al Oliver you will find this scored program to the game. The ticket stub is one of the most desired yet elusive items on my want list. However, I have to believe that the program is much more rare. There were 11278 in attendance I doubt even a third of them purchased a program and scored the game.

Added two more small bronzes to my 'collection' (each is about the size of a Goudey card but quite heavy); also French:

Picked up this really cool piece (circa 1924) for my Maine collection. I have only ever seen one other certificate, and that was in the Maine History archives. But I know nothing about old stock certificates, so I have no idea if it is really rare or not.
Worumbo was a wool mill in Maine, most famous for producing the "keystone cops" uniforms of the New York City police department, and other high end fashions. And apparently, their baseball team was good enough to make the National Semi-Pro baseball tournament twice. Eddie Waitkus played for them before he was shot by the stalker lady. Does anyone know anything more about these? |
"Those bronze boxing pieces are incredible!"
Thanks. One more to close the month; this one is 100 mm tall and is an amateur boxing award by A. Deudonne, ca. 1945-1950. https://photos.imageevent.com/exhibi...%20FFB%201.jpg |
Love the Royal Match ball, the scorecard and the stock certificate!

MC Helmet P/U
Here's a recent pick up I received this past week...a c1950 Motorcycle helmet...made in France by Geno...but the Moving Martian caricature decal likely indicates it was used for racing over here...
