Official 2019 Dinger Whiff Derby Thread
I sincerely apologize for not posting earlier on this year's exciting Dinger Whiff Derby.
The stat was created to compare players with both extraordinary power and an extraordinary capacity to strike out as a result. This year however the list is populated by a number of sluggers who will fall far short of the 200 whiff benchmark created by Judge (-29) and Stanton (-9). Last year's surprise winner Jose Ramirez is inexplicably falling far short of last year's 39 dingers, with a Dinger Whiff Number of (-3). The three dominant sluggers this year also dominate the current Dinger Whiff Derby, so with no further ado (or doo doo) here is the current list: 1. Bellinger +70 2. Trout +59 3. Yelich +55 4. Kepler +49 5. Bregman +44 6. Encarnacion +25 7. Renfroe +19 8. Alonso +17 9. Bell +14 10. Cruz +14 Note: Dinger Whiff Number = 4 times the number of Dingers (HRs) less the total number of whiffs (Ks) |
Contrast and Compare:
'Some' of the worst Dinger Wiff seasons: Moncada 2018 17 HRs - 217 Ks = -149 D.Stubbs 2011 15 HRs - 205 Ks = -145 A.Dunn 2011 11 HRs - 177 Ks = -133 C.Davis 2018 16 HRs - 192 Ks = -128 D.Espinosa 2012 17 HRs - 189 Ks = -121 I.Desmond 2015 19 HRs - 187 Ks = -111 Kris Bryant had a score of -95 his ROY year Mike Trout had a score of -40 the year he led league in Ks Nick Goodrum has the best chance to reach -100 this season 10 HRs - 125 Ks = -85 |
