Hello All,
An impulse purchase here. I'm hoping that you fine folks will have some information about this. I'm especially interested in knowing if it was issued during his career. There is some circumstantial evidence that it was, but nothing definitive. Here's my reasons for thinking that it was: the seller had a bunch of other non-sport postcards for sale from the right era, you'd think that a modern reproduction would have a hall of famer's name on the card, it's a real photo, and my wife (who used to work in photography) says that it's got the right feel for old photopaper. I poked around google (both searching 'Willard brown postcard' and doing an image search with this picture) and couldn't find any matches. And, heck, while we're at it, let's see some other W. Brown cards. |
It has a commemorative look to me though I am far from sure. Dating the back stamp will help with the authentication.

It was made by Jim Rowe or George Brace in the 1950-70s era.

Here is a good resource for dating

Here's an old thread where they were discussed in this forum years ago.

Willard Brown postcards that picture him individually from his playing days are very tough to find.
Here is the only one I have in my collection and I believe there are only two copies that exist, the other one is trimmed. (I won this from a RMY Auction a year or two ago.) It’s a 1952 Dominican Republic issued Carta Real, these were handed out to fans as the leagues “Player of the Week” promotions.
