T202 graded set question
 

Was wanting some advise. I have a complete T202 set that is graded as follows:
about 35% of the set is graded
of that a little over half are PSA and the rest are SGC.
I am looking to get the rest encapsulated but here is the deal -
I prefer PSA but in light of recent "issues" Im a little concerned about their future. Also one of my Cobbs is graded SGC 30/2 and Im pretty sure if I try to cross it over PSA will give it a 1 due to a center crease ( not a fold). SGC holders are nicer but the majority of my higher graded cards are in PSA slabs (my set probably averages a 2 but I have some 3-6 grades).
Should I go with PSA or mix and match in order to not downgrade the one Cobb?

Why are you wanting to grade them, it makes a big difference on the advise you will get.

They are hard to display when so many are raw and so many are stabbed. I'd prefer to display them slabbed and should be easier to find a display case that way. Plus there will always be the factor of resale value even though I don't plan on selling.

I would personally get them all into the same slab for uniformity. I like the looks of SGC so I go with them.

If for sale I always advise to wait to slab them right before you sell them. You never know what will happen to a grading company in the future. Then they change their slabs and everyone wants the latest and greatest version of that slab.

For optimal display value you should crack them all out of their slabs and mount them all on a dark backing...raw...Archivally and all!:)

If grading, my preference is to get them all uniformly PSA, but that will be a heavy, bulky lot - still difficult to display. SGC presents the same challenge. Cracking them out is an option; for my raw sets I use Vario pages / binders. The pages come in different sizes - you can probably get ones that handle three cards. The downside is that the reverse is obscured. However, they do pop!

I would go PSA slabs for all, for the sake of uniformity, protection (I think T202s are a bit fragile due to the hinged sides,) and resale value way down the line.

If you go SGC, you will not have uniformity - your current SGC cards will not look like your newly graded ones due to their flip redesign.

As to that one Cobb, you could always look to sell the one you have and buy one already in a PSA holder, or make a similar trade. If it was me, I'd let it be the last thing I'd deal with. Leave it in the SGC holder and maybe display it as the centerpiece card in the collection for now.

Thanks for the tips guys! I prefer raw most of the time but these are pretty fragile so ill probably get them encapsulated. Gonna think on it a bit. Appreciate the advise :)

The tall toploaders work just fine for mine. And they're way cheaper than grading.

I too am doing the slabbed T202 set - down to just 16 more!! All of mine are in either SGC, PSA or BVG slabs. I mainly just care that the grading companies have certified that the cards are genuine. Who cares what the number grade is, if the eye appeal is nice. I would never crack cards out of existing slabs, just to get holders to look uniform, unless your wallet is fat and you have money to burn. Find the best deal, and go with that grading company - I was able to get SGC to grade most of my 1933 and 34 Goudey sets for just $5 a card last year!! Just my 2 cents

i am also of the opinion that its foolish to crack cards out of slabs for the sake of uniformity...unless they're uniformly raw as a result that is!!!! Scan them all and put a SD card with the images in one of those digital picture frames!!!!
