Probstein cards from China.... yea ok

There have been a lot of listings like this in the last couple weeks. Did you report them to eBay?

eBay is full of fraudsters

At least do some homework and try and get $500 or so. At these prices I'd like to own a 52 Topps Mantle for $92.

I feel like we ALL need to bombard each one of these lowballing the crap out of each person. Then following up with absurd questions.

I buy all of my best, iconic baseball cards from sellers in China.

Are you saying I should be worried?

I just called eBay to report this. They submitted a report so hopefully both accounts will be closed very soon.

You should be fine. As soon as I get my check from the Nigerian Prince those are the sellers I am going to buy ALL my big cards from.

I have a strict rule, only buy from sellers on ebay with "0" feedback and who hail from the good ol' People's Republic of China

You're getting a check from a Nigerian Prince too! I only had to send them a $500 money order to unlock my funds and I should get my money any day now. So excited. :rolleyes:

During my years as a Postmaster I was shocked at how many people fell for these scams. I saw many fake money orders and fake checks, and I have seen people buy $2500 worth of laptops at WalMart and mail them to Russia, even though I begged them not to do it. For a while, it got so bad that I had my clerks notify me when a customer was mailing a package to Russia, or Kenya or Nigeria, so I could question the customer. Many of them were mailing laptops and phones and they had already received the fake money order in payment. I gave 1 cent Postal Money orders to all of the local banks so the banks could compare real money orders to the fake ones that the banks were receiving from their customers.

It is happening all of the time and the scammers are getting rich.

This one of course.

DUDE! That might be a scam, I used Western Union and it was $5000. For only $500 that has to be a scam. Still better odds than buying a Cy Tobb.

I second what Rick says, I can't tell you how many times we have had people come in to my Post Office in NYC crying and frantic trying to recall a package they mailed to Nigeria or Russia earlier in the day. I was lucky and got some of them back because I had an "inside' phone number at the International Service Center at JFK. If they sent it Registered or Express Mail, you had a chance of getting it back because that mail is kept separate but if it went regular air mail, you were out of luck. The supervisor at JFK told me regular air mail went on the big machine and once it went into the bag, that was it.

Maybe I should feel sorry for these people, but I keep thinking that it all comes back to greed. Give these people a chance to get something for nothing (or almost nothing) and they can't wait.

Seriously though, how long before the Chinese start producing excellent fake cards in excellent fake holders? They have been doing this for some time in the coin market.

That's why I screenshot everything.

That is already being done but in Mexico instead of China.

We haven't heard much about Copperfield recently.

I just found another beauty from China this morning. Rare card. Great condition. Great price - and a sponsored Ebay item no less. I knew I had to hit this fast before you all saw it. I just ignored the Probstein watermark - I'm sure that's just an honest mistake.
