Timing is everything! Hall selling collection
https://www.sportscollectorsdaily.co...m0ae72Iw8_oAXk
Will the demand be there to absorb 5000 t206's???? |
There's a lot of demand for T-206, especially the rare ones. But 5000 cards, that's a pretty hefty collection.
|
"the only near-complete Sovereign set ever assembled"??? Our Ted Z. might have something to say about that.
|
How close did he get to a "master set" ?

Did he grade his own cards?

Interesting he is no longer with PSA and is now selling this collection. He was selling stock on a consistent basis but as of his last filing increased his position. Perhaps some options exercised or something.
Anyone know the reason he is selling? |

Oh chit, I just ended a sentence with a verb. |
I take it, that he has his name on the holder "The Hall collection" like they do with big collections and finds. I wonder if it will help or hurt the value of his collection when it goes up in the auction block, if his name is on the holders.

No vanity plates on these that I'm seeing.

Didn't David Hall have some recent health issues, such as cancer? I understand he is very well off, but decided it was time to cash in.

Boy. The founder of PSA and owner of the single most extensive collection of the single most popular set, all PSA graded, is selling his entire collection. I understand that this may have been in the works before all this Moser BS came to the surface, but the timing is, at the very least, one hell of a coincidence.

Copied from my Facebook Tobacco Row post...
This topic of the sale if kinda bittersweet to me. Not for the reason that everyone else has but the fact that David collected exactly what I collect and we both come from collecting coins also. I’ve never met David in person but we have a few good friends in common and news would travel quickly to him when I’d have a card that he didn’t. His level of T206 collecting has inspired me to go after the same master set over the years. Lastly, David, if by chance you read this, please get PSA T206 Registry to show all 5252 cards and please register your set before the sale. I already see you in the list but only for a handful of cards. Your a legend in my book and your set belongs in the number one slot until maybe one day I get caught up to you. Good luck in your next adventure!! |
Ronnie73 that is one hell of a post.
Good luck with advancing your collection. |
Hope his health is ok

If the sale is due to health related issues, David, keep up the daily fight because that's whats most important. |
Hmmmmmmmmm. Practically liquidating the entire collection of the FOUNDER of Collectors Universe? Are they going to change the name to Ex-Collectors Universe (XCLCT)? Something is up here. Somehow they can break up his collection, figure out when to sell what over the course of three auctions in 2019, and pump it up to an expected $8 million. Yet they're mum and practically silent on the current state of things. Interesting.

Including David Hall, there are 4 of us on this forum now who have completed an (all) SOVEREIGN set. I think I was the first to do it back in 2007. Hope to see you at the National. TED Z T206 Reference . |

Sovereign set — 476 cards
Hi, Ron. Good news! The complete set is 476 cards, so it just got a little easier for you. :-) T206 Resource lists eight forest green 350’s that in all probability don’t exist and for which there is no proof of existence. Luke Lyon covered this subject well here:
http://www.thatt206life.com/2017/03/...gn-350-a-hoax/ Also see our discussion here after Luke posted his article: http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=236365 The complete forest green 350 set has 208 cards, as best as I can determine after much study. The 476 includes the 150 150’s, 66 apple green 350’s, and 52 460’s (including the six super prints). Please feel free to contact me directly if you’d like to discuss this in more depth. Separately, I can say with certainty based on personal knowledge that Mr. Hall’s near-complete Sovereign set isn’t the only one. |

David Hall is a great collector, has been a friend to me over the years.. and I for one am sad to see him sell off and no longer be a part of the hobby.. He will be missed..
|
It will be interesting to see where the high grade cards go price wise. I predict world record prices....

Hall
Is there a list of his cards available for viewing anywhere?
From what I heard he has a near Master set with most of the Rare Backs . This may be the only opportunity for me to complete some of my T206 Player back runs. John P |

Does anybody remember the first round of "Hall" T206s to hit the auction block over a decade ago? Holy crap, it looked like the grader must have been drunk. There were OBVIOUSLY trimmed cards with high grades, it was pathetic. You can only imagine what the rest of this is going to be like. Hey, don't buy the card, buy the flip...
I'm not going to edit the above comment. MY BAD - I'm probably thinking about the HARRIS collection that was sold a while back. My APOLOGIES for the above comment regarding the Hall collection. I'll have to go back through my auction catalogs and kick myself in the ASS for making that mistake. My sincerest apologies for the mistake. If I didn't mention it was PSA that did the lousy grading on the Harris collection, I guess I'm now doing that. Fr3d C0wl3s |
