Help with a pinback
1 Attachment(s)
Hi All..... I was hoping someone here might know who the "Al" or "Sam" is on the pin. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I could swear this pin has been discussed before. Does it seem newish or vintage?
For those having trouble seeing it, it says “Roosevelt Homecoming.” “Al” is on our left (in profile and wearing a ball cap) and “Sam” is on our right. I think it is two famous alums of a Roosevelt High School....many of which exist. |
Thank you for replying. The pin reads "WENDELLS INC. MINNEAPOLIS"on the curl. The company that made it used "WENDELLS INC." from 1936-1938 and from 1968-1985 according to my pin-back book by Hake. I would say the pin has to be from 1936-38.

I think it is Al Simmons. He went to Roosevelt High in Milwaukee and would have graduated around 1920. Not sure who Sam is.

Thanks for the information. I think you're probably right about it being Al Simmons

That pinback is for Roosevelt High in Minneapolis. It's definitely not Al Simmons.
Click on this link to worthpoint where you can see this pin was sold along with a group of other Minneapolis pinbacks. You can blow the pic up and see a better closeup pic than what was posted here on 54. https://www.worthpoint.com/worthoped...ool-1899804535 Here is another one sold in another group of all Minnesota pinbacks. https://www.worthpoint.com/worthoped...elt-1902503405 Here is the notable alumni list for this school which doesn't include an Al or a Sam. I personally believe it's probably just the head football coaches who faced off in whatever year this homecoming game took place. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roosev...l_(Minneapolis) |
Well, half my info was accurate. :p
