Odd fact re: 1939-40 Play Ball
Am not sure if any of you have ever paired up the repeated players from the 1939-40 Play Ball sets. There is what I consider an absolutely remarkable thing that happens when you do.
I wrote it up on the SABR blog and will give a quick summary below the link for anyone not wanting to click. https://sabrbaseballcards.blog/2019/...ets-play-ball/ Short version - You know Joe D and Teddy Ballgame each have a portrait and an action pose across the two sets. But did you know that EVERYONE does?! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...2c1e6b0538.jpg Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |
Very interesting. Nice job.

Really great research. Your article scratches me right where I itch. The 1940 Shoeless Joe was the first “big” pre-war I bought as a kid. Playball has been a love affair ever since. Always love learning more about those sets.

Nice research, Jason. Thanks for sharing. Teddy's rookie is a hobby classic.
