What's your favorite graded "Authentic/Altered" card you have?
I'm looking at some cards where some horrendous cards that are beat to death are much less appealing to look at than their altered counterparts. I figured it'd be fun to show your favorite altered cards here. What do you have that you love?

Always love posting this beauty from Lionel Carter's old collection.

Given how rare these are, I was happy to get this blue crofts Cobb in any condition

A couple of scarcities. The E222 would be an "A" if it were graded.

Love it!

Awesome t215 Pirate! Love these ultra rare beauties. Let’s show another. Meanwhile, with all the debate on whether T213-1s are T206s, why is a T215 Pirate considered a T215, when type 1 and 2 are clearly NOLA-issued cards and the Pirate is not? I guess a topic for another thread (that 4-6 of us will care about!).

H Murphy -- that blue sporting news panel with Wags and Cobb is 1000% beast.

Here's one of mine. Not even worth removing from the GAI holder... I'm scared it might fall apart.

These are all in SGC "A" holders now. Except maybe the Ellam, which I don't own anymore.
http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...pictureid=1876 This one would be, except I didn't want an A holder. No alterations, just very rough factory cuts. http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...pictureid=5054 |
tough call for me, but today i'm feeling these two.

Authentic Favorite(s) T206
Sorry, I cannot decide which one. Therefore, all four are my favorite for the following reasons......
This red Cobb was the last card in completing my all - SOVEREIGN T206 set. http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...CobbSGCx50.jpg . http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...obbSGCx50b.jpg Mr. Plank was the last card I needed to complete my all - SWEET CAPORAL Factory #30 set. It's now "complete" with 468 cards (no Wagner). http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...nkSC150x30.jpg . http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...SC150x30xb.jpg And, these two dudes completed my hybrid (assorted backs) T206 set of 522 cards. http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...StLouisSGC.jpg . http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...tLouisSGCA.jpg TED Z T206 Reference . |

There really are some amazing cards in this thread. DJ, that Wagner is great. Bryan and Jeff, love the ghosts on the backsides. Steve, the SL blank backs are off the hook. Maybe Jamie will weigh in with likely the greatest A of all time, which also doubles as a brown old mill. Ted, I thought you would post your Brown OM overprint. Speaking of “A”s and Brown Old Mills, here is a barbershop quartet (sorry for the sideways pic, but it is “A” so what do you expect)

Don't have many "A"s, but this might be my favorite. Low SGC pop. I've got worse looking cards that got a number grade.

Of what I have scanned in, I've always loved this card. Was very happy to pick it up raw before sending it in to PSA.

I love that N172 Wright! Although "only" authentic, it has great image clarity and presents much better than some of the numerically-graded Wright Old Judges |

Tough to find Anson on Philadelphia. Not sure why the card got an A; it should have been given a number grade.

You have to take a Darby as you find it... Honorable mention: https://photos.imageevent.com/exhibi...1%20Cobb_1.jpg |
Hey guys.....excuse me if I'm "monopolizing" this show, but I would like to make this point regarding cards graded "A". It's immaterial to me whether
these cards are Altered, Evidence of Trim, or whatever other defect exists..... "A" in my book defines AFFORDABLE. All 6 cards which I have posted in this thread cost me significantly less than had they been graded with a number. And, their images are unblemished. http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7.../batwagner.jpg . . http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...rfranknagy.jpg This scrap is a favorite in my collection since it almost completes my Doolan (fielding) run. I thought I only need his BROAD LEAF 350 card. But, having seen the PIRATE card of him in post #10 here, I need that card also. http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...Cf30xscrap.jpg TED Z T206 Reference . |

This thread has some serious eye candy! Thanks for sharing them. There have been times when I saw cards in A holders and wanted to pull the trigger. Is it safe to say most collectors have them because 1. The card is in some way exceptionally rare or scarce and you were grateful to even find the A? 2. The card is, relative to your purchasing power, otherwise unobtainable? (this of course would vary for each collector) 3. For a given card, you would rather have an A card than something that is really creased up or in some way damaged? Sometimes I think if a card has been damaged by a collector years ago but the particular damage still merits a numeric grade, is that any worse than a collector over the years doing something to his card that merits it landing in an A holder? As long as there was no intent to deceive, I might not care, especially if it was a rare/expensive card that I otherwise couldn't have or otherwise couldn't have such a nice copy. Once it's in the A holder, everyone knows and the risk of deception is past.
Anyway, really neat stuff! I love seeing what you all have in your collections. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk |

Hi Luke, where did you get that Collins blank? I was the underbidder on one just like that one on eBay six years ago.

WHOOPS !
How could I forget this one. Anyway, I traded it to Chris and Kristin Buckler. The quintessential Louisville collectors. http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...manPROOFbb.jpg TED Z T206 Reference . |
