1980's Cal Ripken Postcard help
I have the following early Cal Ripken Jr Team Issue PC and don't know what year it is from. He has slightly longer hair and he looks pretty young, measures 3-1/2 x 5-1/4 which I think dates it somewhere between 1981 and 1985 or so, anyone know which year it is?

Rhett, that is the 1981 Ripken postcard. I have one graded by PSA.

Thanks, I was hoping it was a 1981, obviously. I appreciate the heads up

Ripken postcard
Rhett,
The Orioles tended to use the same photo on their postcards over a period of years. The Ripken photo on the postcard you have was issued in 1981 and 1982, but your postcard is definitely from 1981. The 1982 version has a slight cropping difference on the Orioles of his uniform. The best part is it's his autograph from early in his career. It's been a long time. Hope all is well with you. |
Holy Crap, is this an Alan Strout sighting!!!
It has been a LONG time, you are one of the people that really helped both Rhys and I get excited about early sports cards. We obviously got the collecting bug from our dad but you made quite an impression on two youngsters from your church ward and I will forever be grateful for it. I seem to remember you bringing Rhys and I to one of the Augusta Super Shows in Maine back the day, we were probably 12-13 years old or so at the time. I had no idea that you were a member of Net54! |
Resurrecting this old post hoping for some similar help. The original photo from Rhett on this thread isn't showing anymore so I can't compare it with mine. Here's mine from a collection a friend and I picked up recently. Which year would this be?
Also, PSA says "(No Longer Grade/Authentic)" for the '81 set. Does this mean they won't grade or authentic these anymore? Thanks! https://i.ibb.co/f018jxY/mini-PXL-20...-213845396.jpg |
