PSA 8 to PSA 9
Has anyone resubmitted a card (in holder) and had it bumped from PSA 8 to a PSA 9? I couldn't find any other threads on this specific topic from the search engine here.
|
No, the only experience I've had is cracking it first. It's probably extremely rare to get a bump up while in the holder.
|
I have heard of it happening, even a 9 to a 10 a few times. I have never had any luck personally.
|
Yes
I have on a number of occasions. Card needs to clearly be under graded to have best success rate.
|
Yes, it happens. Even on very expensive cards. One of the guys on the PSA message board just increased a Jim Brown rookie from an 8 to 8.5:
https://forums.collectors.com/discus...m-brown-rookie I had a Gold Classic Jeter /9500 that I sent in that got a 9. Sold it and forgot to remove it from my inventory. Noticed that when I spotted it next, it had been upgraded to a 10. Some of the 1993 SP Jeters that are now 10s were once 9s. |
I have had several cards bump from an 8 to a 9. Here is my most recent one the Clemente along with a couple of others.

My criteria when looking at an 8 and determining if it has shot to bump is the following 1) 3 of the 4 corners have to be strong for the grade and 1 corner appropriate for an 8 2). Centering is the # 1 thing they look for as far as a .5 bump is concerned 3). Registration and over picture quality For me to submit for review I need to have at least 2 out of the 3 apply to the card. |
Curious about the process to do this. In person at a show or send in to PSA? Do you crack it out or does PSA do It? Cost?
|
For a "REVIEW" submission, you send the card in the original holder to PSA (either mail or at show) and they look at the card inside the holder. If the card is awarded a higher grade, they crack it out and put it in a new holder. If it doesn't, presuming you listed the current grade +0.5 as the minimum you would accept for the new grade, you get it back in the original slab.
They will also do a "CROSSOVER" submission which is a card still in another company's slab with the same rules: you set the minimum you'd accept; if it reaches that grade, they will crack it and put it in their holder. Otherwise, you get it back just like it was when you sent it. Cost is the same price as to grade it raw, so whatever service level the card needs based on your declared value, presuming it is not way outside the actual market value. |

Some will say the best way to get a bump is to crack it out and re-sub it. I used to do that all the time and then as the holders got better it was more difficult to crack them out so I decided to go ahead and submit them for review in their original holder. I have found I have just as good of results by submitting for review versus cracking and re-subbing. |
Do you pay if they do not give it a bump?

I’ve kept an eye on the Jeter 1993 SP and if 9s did become 10s, it wasn’t in the past 11 months. The pop at PSA is still 22, as it was when I started this thread last May: http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=254951 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The only time the vouchers can be used for higher levels is for on-site submission at the National. Last year I think you could use the 15-count voucher to get like 9 grades on site for up to $2000 or so declared value. So it was well worth it if you could get to the National.
