Lou Gehrig Signed Ball

Of course I am super skeptical but please don't be afraid to give ANY input. You can't say something like this is real from pictures but please tell me what makes you believe it is fake.

w7imel 04-07-2019 03:52 PM

That is horrible...IMO if you have to ask if its fake you better drop autograph collecting as a hobby:D:D

Klrdds 04-07-2019 03:56 PM

Looks like a Marino and Coaches Corner special . I hope you didn't buy it if you were considering it . It looks like a bad tanning booth tan.

I think you all mis-interpreted what I said.

I am saying you can't say something of this caliber is real from pictures but you CAN say if it is fake.

If somebody post a Gehrig ball there is no way anybody can say just from pictures it is real. No way. But there may be something visible in the picture to say it is for sure NOT real.

Sladge34 04-07-2019 05:23 PM

I disagree, most people buy strictly from photos. Someone who’s knows the hobby can do that.... best bet is to do your own research!!!

++1..unrealistic for someone in new york to fly to Oregon for a 400 dollar mickey mantle ball...Thats why good pictures matter!

A good, clear and close up of any autograph gives you 90% of what you need. The only difficult thing to tell from a photo is live ink. In the case of THIS baseball, I don’t need to see it in person, it’s a horrendous attempt at a Lou Gehrig.

Also, I’m not just opining Gehrig on a whim, I have 6 in my personal collection including 3 on Baseballs. Gehrig, single signed is incredibly rare. One that is boldly on a sweet spot would be worth tens of thousands.

Klrdds 04-07-2019 06:58 PM

Most collectors buy from photos . Good quality photos. After that it is the signature's idiosyncrasies that tell if it is good or not . I would bet that each collector would evaluate a Gehrig ball, or any autograph for that matter on the feel they get from the signature. In fact I would bet that each collector would have a different criteria or characteristics that they would use to evaluate the authenticity of any autograph. My criteria could be different from other collectors but we could each come up with the same result or discuss our ideas to arrive at a common decision. So your question is a little open for interpretation.

Fake ball, fake auto. You could use it for batting practice for a Little League team though - still good for that.

khkco4bls 04-10-2019 11:07 AM

Look at how slowly the L in lou is drawn you could tell it's fake very slow

David Atkatz 04-11-2019 07:13 AM

Along with all its other faults--and they are legion--the "signature" is way too large.
