Help ID a T206 back stamp!
2 Attachment(s)
I have ID'd the card as a Southern Lg Tony Thebo-Waco, but am curious as to the Back Stamp (looks like a policeman or someone in uniform) & is this a regular Black Old Mill? Not very versed in Old Mill & the color variations.
I have a chance to buy this card (or partial card is more correct), but don't have any idea what it may be worth! Any enlightenment will be appreciated! Fred |
It’s definitely black, but I don’t recognize the stamp.
|
While it's great that you are asking questions before you buy, if they're asking an amount that makes you feel like you need to ask questions before you buy, they're asking too much.
$10 is the absolute top of what you should even consider paying. |
Not tied to any specific collector as far as I know.

The Saluting Man stamp has been seen before (as has been posted) but I don't see it that often. Agreed that it isn't associated with any specific collector and is a generic stamp. It's interesting that the three shown here are all on Old Mill backs which leads me to think they are all from the same person, but who they are is anyone's guess. I'll add this new one to the project website with the others.
Thanks for posting the images. |
Thanks for---
--all the interesting posts---I think they answered my questions.
Definitely seems like it was the same person doing the stamping---has the "saluting man" been seen on any other Brand? Scott--I haven't been asked for a price, but was prepared to offer $10 at the most! I wasn't sure if being Old Mill made it worth "hundreds" or not!:D:D Thanks again, Gents, for the very helpful info. I'm glad I posted if it is going to help the "project"! |

For John & Scott--
---and general info---Card is now up on BST Auction if you want to follow how it goes.
|
I like that stamp and it is getting a little traction in the BST. He and Large Ass could be brothers!

|
This "Date Stamped" Wagner has been graded as PSA-2, no?
|
Saw the article
I Recently saw the article your talking about i found this specific card at a antique mall a while back haven't gotten it check out yet I'm still researching and looking for any info I could get thanks
|
So you found this Date-Stamped Wagner from an antique mall? That's a nice find. Congrats!
|
You are lucky to have found the stamp. That card is just a common without it. But the date is significant and Wagner cards with that stamp routinely sell for six figures. Without the stamp, it's a dollar bin special.
|
Appreciate any info I could get the more the better I could understand about the stamp and card

How much is the owner asking for it? |
I'm curious to know other than the PSA 2 graded Dated Stamp Wagner have there ever been any other Reported or Documented card like that that have surfaced over the years that's talking about the stamp and date the only one I could find is that one in the article I'm just here seeking info

For the most part collecting stamps on the back of cards is a novelty. The stamp in most cases makes the card worth WAY less. One stamp commands a premium, that is only because everyone knows of the guy trying to collect them. |
There are at least three stamps that command a premium: Jeff Burdick, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and then maybe Howe McCormick (least of the 3).
But yes, the guy who owned the date stamped T206 had quite a few of them, and it's presumed that they're dated when he acquired them. Some are on the Great T206 Back Stamp Project website. And the card pictured is fake/counterfeit until proven otherwise. |
I had to look at the date to see if it was April 1st? To me the Wagner looks pretty good. But the name is cut off so I really can’t see the ink. I’m intrigued. Anyone or everyone know what a real Wags is worth so I think the OP is pulling a certain part of our body or chain.
