Ty Cobb vs Babe Ruth!
September 24, 1923 Detroit Tigers vs New York Yankees in the first season of Yankee Stadium. Who wouldn't mind going back in time and watching this afternoon tilt. A 20 year old rookie Lou Gehrig on the bench watching. Would have been nice to see Miller Huggins watching the kid take batting practice. The Yankees, who would go on to win the World Series that year, pounded Cobb and the Tigers 12-4 behind the Babe's hitting and running. One of Ruth's best seasons - he would hit .393 on the year christening the new Stadium on day one with a home run and going on a season long terror and take home his only MVP. On this day, late in September, he would go 2 for 3 with 2 walks and a STOLEN BASE! Was he showing up Cobb? You know Cobb had a good view from CF watching the big man slid into second safely.
