Unidentified Vintage Autographs (On-Going)
2 Attachment(s)
These are from a large scrapbook that included baseball players, movie stars, musicians, and general celebrities of the era. For the most part, every signature I have identified has been of a pretty big star at the time - so, here's to hoping these are pretty good as well.
Does anyone recognize these? Thanks for looking! |

...and since I posted these, here are a couple of other unknowns from a 1938-1942 scrapbook (musicians, baseball players, politicians, NYC content):
FIRST ONE IDENTIFIED: Tom Clarke (Reds) - Thanks! The second has Cab Calloway but I have no idea who signed below him... Thanks! |
The top signature on the last scan I am pretty sure is Cab Calloway - Edit: Duh, you already said that :)
|
It looks like the one that's dated, is Tom Clarke.
I found the below signature on ebay, and it's linked to Tom Clarke, who played for the Cincinnati Reds from 1909-1917, and died in 1945. https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/BVMAA...Qz/s-l1600.jpg Steve |
1st picture looks like Edgar G Robinson - actor...

Love the Cab Calloway signature. Photo I took of him in 1984 at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston performing with his grandson C. Calloway Brooks.

I must say...the "C" in Clarke bothers me terribly. That has to be the most annoying/ugly looking letter I have seen in an older signature. I couldn't figure out if it was a fancy "P" or what...now that I can even see the "C"...I still can't stand the look of it! |
Alright, well...figured I'd see if anyone can help me with these (figuring out the autographs and who the one unsigned photo is):

These things drive me crazy and each time one is deciphered, I get back a bit of my sanity :-) One identified (photo removed): Fritz Kreisler |
The violinist is Fritz Kresler

The violinist is Fritz Kreisler.

I know the others must be tough, I've been stumped for years and this isn't the first message board I've posted them on. |

Here are a few more bugging me - they are from a late 1940's Tigers scrapbook that included everyone from Mickey Cochrane to Honus Wagner.

The third signature in the last picture, could be Joe Orrell. He pitched for the Tigers in 1943 - 1945. The line making the l's look like t's, could be from the signature above his.
Here's a sample I found on ebay (bottom of the first column): https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/newAA...GT/s-l1600.jpg Steve |

Any other ideas for the rest? |
I believe the blue ink one of the last trio is Frank "Spec" Shea
