1868 ca. Eye Candy - Keystone BBC of Harrisburg
Some early cdvs just look great.
Here is a generic cdv, recent pick up....approx 2 1/4" x 3 3/4" http://luckeycards.com/cdv1868c.jpg |

Very nice, Leon. Love that one.
I got this odd photo from that auction that I am still seeing something in that I hadn’t noticed before. There are about 40 vignettes of Ball players either playing or inflicting pain on the poor injured player. The Close of the Ball Season. Circa 1873 to 78 or so. More cdv’s coming up in a great Hunt photo auction, not mine. |
Nice pick up Leon. Mark had some nice CDVs in that auction.

What auction did that come from? Are they an advertiser here? I never saw it. Very nice CDV

I wasn’t lucky enough to win this cdv in the auction but certainly was enamored with it. It is a game-action shot of two identified teams, one of which (Hudson River) played with the top-tier teams of that era. In the background is their HUGE flag waving with the letters HRBBC on it. Whoever won it got a great and important early image. There is a book out there that even discusses this game.
If somebody on the forum won this, maybe they’ll share a better scan of it. Rob M Attachment 344911 |

Thanks Jay. The detail is amazing. I also can’t resist asking if you mean the artist or famous L.A. detective.

Nice!

Great Pickup’s Leon and Bruce! Both are terrific and scarce items! I was fortunate to come out on top of the bidding war for the Alabama boys CDV! It’s a wonderful image, and in hand even better!

I had this one, Leon.
The Hudson cdv is a great ourdoor image. |

Gary I had you pegged as the new owner of the Hudson River image. Sounds like it landed elsewhere. Rob M |

Shame the uniforms didn't catch on. Imagine how dashing our deadball heroes might have looked.

Not me, Rob.

I was thinking the same thing. That was a great auction with some very unique cdv’s and steroviews...loved looking at the 1860’s-70s teams. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
