Nice Gehrig check for sale in recent Goldin catalog, and no doubt will fetch a princely sum. Have to admit though this line left me scratching my head a little:

"The date of this check, April 30th, is significant, as Gehrig played the final game of his career exactly nine years later, on April 30, 1939."

Huh. Really. Maybe coincidental, but not sure significant.

I don't know, I can easily see that when writing a check a player might ponder if their career will end in exactly 9 years, and then do everything within their power to make that come true.

If you mix up all of the letters on the check, it spells out "really good hitter". Truly one of a kind

The individuals that write the descriptions just have to run out of things to say to make the item seem even better than it is. I’d probably just say “Man, this Gehrig check is pretty cool!” Probably why I’m not in the writing business.

Ah, just plain ole AH puffery - nothing new there.
But shame on anyone who bids more on the item because they actually believe it.

Takes a signature style to write that kind of chit.

They should have whited out the last two digits of the year - 19** - and asked, "The great Yankees' slugger played his final major league game on April 30, 1939. Was this check written on that very historic and monumental day??????"
