Paypal question-- I mucked up.
What happens when a paypal payment to an ebay seller is tied to a credit card and the credit card does not have enough on it? Does paypal then try to draw the funds off the bank account linked to it?
I very seldom need to be reminded to pay an ebay seller, but I received a notification today for a sale Saturday evening. I also very seldom use a credit card for paypal charges, but do have one card tied to paypal. When I went to pay this ebay auction reminder it submitted the payment through my credit card and said the transaction was complete. The card won't cover it. I thought maybe somebody here has experienced the same lapse in attention. |
No direct experience but I would just pay down your credit card balance, then call the cc bank to see if they can allow the transaction to go through. If that doesn't work call PayPal next and explain the situation. I'm sure they will work something out, especially if you don't just wait for the transaction to be declined.

I would call PP and, assuming you have funds in your bank account to cover it, see if they'll cancel the CC transaction and redo it as a bank transfer.

That works too, assuming there isn't a reason he'd prefer the card charged. Points, or not paying the whole balance up front come to mind.

Thanks gents.

I believe they try and use your backup form of payment... So if credit card is primary they will try bank account if card is declined and vice versa...

PP Credit
You should be able to use PP credit. It is quick and easy and there isn't any interest if you pay it off quickly. I used it to make a large purchase at a show, because the seller wanted to be paid with PayPal. I knew that I could turn the item over quickly for a modest profit and pay back PayPal right away.

I once had some funds left in Paypal, (like less than 10 bucks)....I bought something & paid for a item worth more than that...They simply use the Paypal funds and charged the leftover amount to the bank linked to it.

Have you tried logging into your PayPal account and looking at the transaction details to see what actually happened?
