The O'Doul Award
2 Attachment(s)
The O'Doul Award is proposed to honor Net54 members on a rotating basis for reasons that are as yet undefined. The purpose of this thread is to introduce the concept and entertain suggestions on criteria and qualifications about who deserves to be the first honoree. Rather than a poll, nominations may be made in this thread and seconded by other members. The deadline for nominations and seconds will be determined by your response or lack thereof. We need to consider how frequently the award should be passed on to the next winner as well. The current award winner will be obliged to pass the award forward without cost to the subsequent honoree. This thread should serve to unify all discussion and commentary about the award. How frequently should it be awarded? Annually? I know that if I were to set the rules in stone, they would be quickly violated based on past experience. Therefore I want this to be a group effort to create the basis for this award and its journey. With your input I will have to put the rules into context by editing this post. (edied Feb 3rd) I am offering the award free of charge from my collection to the first recipient. A list of all award winners will be maintained in this thread as well including the factor that put them over the top in the selection process. Let's try to keep this thread more civil than some of our HOF threads. So at this point I would like to share with you the hardware that is "The O'Doul Award" Attachment 343094 Attachment 343095 A rare and fine award indeed. Please do not drool on your keyboards. NB: This thread is not a Live Auction or a BST listing, and therefore deserves placement on the main board. Although the award itself is priceless, the market value is dubious at best despite the GEM MINT grade. Let's begin creating the framework for the selection of the first O'Doul Award winner from the Net54 family. Since I currently have the physical award in my possession, I must recuse myself from the award winner to avoid charges of colluding with myself. Current Nominations include 1. Ted Z ***** 2. Bill Gregory * 3. Manny ** 4. Rhett Yeakley 5. (Cobb/Cobbs) Guy???? 6. Archive 7. Leon 8. 9. Seconds are denoted by * This post has been proofread several times to satisfy grammar hounds everywhere, |
Great Idea, Frank...as usual.
I would like to nominate three names to be considered: Ted Z - whose vast wealth of knowledge always amazes me. Bill Gregory - whose research efforts are always the best. and... Sir Frank himself - who does more downright entertaining and, occasional torture, than the rest of the board combined. |
Little good ever comes of drinking before dinner. :D:eek::cool:

I would think a good criteria is someone who contributes to the betterment of the hobby. For example, Manny's research on the bogus signed T206s, TedZ's information presented here on the history of T206's or someone like the gentleman who brought the Cobb/Cobbs into the hobby through a unique find.
All of these contribute to the overall health and knowledge of the hobby in general and us (collectors, dealers, etc.) in particular. The award would be issued whenever a number of folks agree that a contribution was significant (and positive). |
Great idea. I would like to nominate Ted Z as our first winner of this award. His longevity in the hobby and shared knowledge of multiple T206 checklist threads should be noted. Ted Z is also well known for "Let's See Your" posts, and many members participate in them. When Ted Z posts, I take notice.

Re: The O'Doul Award
Please enter the nomination of Dr. Rhett Yeakley-one of the most knowledgeable and finest gentlemen in our hobby.
|
+1
Since it is being done here then it seems the award does need to be based on contributions on this forum and for the hobby. Teddy Z gets my vote as the first recipient. Great thinking, Dr. Frank. Quote:

OK
I would like to nominate board member "Archive" for his long-standing contributions to this board. The guy's post-count is incredible, and some of it very humorous.
|
To me, the story of the year was the signed T206 fiasco. The guy who uncovered the forgeries ( Manny?) Gets my vote.

My nomination goes for the guy who runs this forum and keeps things civil. Without him, none of us would have a life.
My nomination is for Leon. |
Manny gets my vote. His forgery discovery was the news of the hobby and should change the way authentication is done in the future.
Honorable mentions: Ted Z. and Leon |
Personally, I'd vote for Manny. I think his detective work on the signed T206s is the most relevant, recent contribution that rises to the level of the famous, yet highly controversial ;), O'Doul Award.
I think the award should be given out for a specific act at a given time, starting with the recent past and moving forward. |
Ted should be a shoe in for the Old Cool award.
|
Have a special Lifetime Achievement O'Doulie for Leon, then present a regular one for a specific member/effort/contribution/etc.
|
While I agree Manny's contributions towards the bad autographs thread were amazing and worthy of recognition, I think the initial award should be given for most overall contribution in the past year and Ted's entire catalog of posts and knowledge over the year deserve the award at first. There are so many great posters on this board, and so much knowledge offered that it is hard to pick just one winner of the award.

NO award for me, please. It's my job :).
In fact there are several members deserving of the award. That means there will be lots of candidates for the future ones. Quote:
