1993 stadium club box hunt #212 John Kiely
Hi i got this card last night from a hobby box i purchased from the hobby shop and was wondering why i cant find this online. was an error recorded for this card or is this a cheap anomoly. Ok so i dont remember how to upload an image and tried tinypick but wouldnt work.
the card is a normal #212 john kiely but the picture on the front looks like someone put a few blotches of white paint. im sure something to do with production. got any news on this card or how to import an image that would help. :o |
Sounds like a print defect. It happens.
Are the white paint blotches perfectly square? Is that what you're saying? Arthur |
1993 Stadium Club cards were very glossy. The "white paint blotches" are probably paper loss from the cards sticking together.

The card is in a mint state so its not peeling or anything it looks like the effect you get with a photo lense while the sun is in the distance and the print didnt add color to the card so its just white and there is no oval where the stadium club mark is just the gold flake. if someone tells me how to add picture ill show.

Let Me Know what is known of this card plz.
:) :D ;) |
I leave it to one of the print guys to advise how such a defect can occur but have some like it. I think they are more collectible if recurring, or involve a star card

Looks graded. You said this was pulled from a box this weekend?

The Kiely as well as the Fielder and Simmons are solvent drips. I haven't seen one on Stadium club, but it can happen.

Just a print freak. I've got one of Jim Abbott from '91 Topps. I tried pushing it as the splooge variation but it didn't stick.
Did you see what I did there? Pretty awesome, huh? Made that up on the fly just now. No, no, no need to thank me. It's my duty to share these talents with the world. Arthur |

Mostly because it's a one time mistake during production. And just one of a whole group of things that can go wrong. While other hobbies like stamps and coins have placed a premium on that sort of thing (varies with severity) Ours has concluded that it's just a misprint. A few of us collect them, but outside of the really spectacular misprints, most won't pay much if any premium. If I came across this in a dealers dollar box, I'd probably buy it. If it was on Ebay with typical shipping it would be closer to $5-6 and I wouldn't be interested. Now the die cut card with the die cut at the bottom instead of the top from a set I collect..... That I paid a bit for. |
Arthur— I am finding it hard to put into words my appreciation for your development of the term splooge. After more thought I will try to give it what it deserves
I will say it is better than Bob’s description of the similar one he had on his 59 Brandt as a bug splatter |
Al, you keep flattering me like that and I'm going to end up with two of those Abbotts.
