Individual Cards?
Are there any solo baseball cards for these two pitchers?
George Rube Foster Boston AL 1913-17 Frank Allen Brooklyn NL 1912-13, FL 1914 and Boston NL 1916-17 Currently the only "card" I have of them are the 1913 T200's, Brooklyn NL (Allen) and Boston AL (Foster), which are ok but would like to find individual cards for these two individuals. |
Scarce but not impossible
Allen and Foster do have individual cards, appearing in two of my favorite sets. Allen is included as a Brave in the D381 Fleischmann (also Ferguson) bread set, while Foster appears as a Red Sox in the E270 Colgan's extension of the more common E254 Colgan's issue. These are difficult sets to complete -- believe me, I know -- but individual cards can be found and are not outrageously expensive when they do turn up.

I thought there may be a "D" type card of Frank Allen, thanks for the info. Do you have a scan of George Foaster's E270? Would love to see it. I was always under the impression that the Foster listed was Ed Foster and not George. Thanks for the info!

Since Ed Foster never played for Boston and was out of baseball by 1913, it's a safe bet Colgan's intended the E270 card to represent George (Rube) Foster. However, you are correct that the photo on the E270 appears to be the 1908 Cleveland pitcher Ed Foster. In fact, it is the same image used by Baseball Reference on its Ed Foster page. Sorry.

No need for apologies. It's the investigation part that I love the most.
