Red! Georgia Tech pennant
Georgia Tech has never been known to have used to the color red, the color of its arch rival, Georgia. I have 3 theories about this pennant, all seem unlikely:
1) it's a printing mistake; con: that's a heck of mistake 2) the pennant was printed by a Bulldog alum to own Tech fans; con: seems like an expensive gag 3) Georgia Tech, way back when, actually used red, and history has been wrong; con: there is no evidence of this Other theories anybody?https://twitter.com/rvzlot/status/1087938105930334208 |

These things just weren't as regulated back then. I wouldn't look too hard for the rationale behind it. If anything, I would guess the manufacturer had some excess burgundy felt inventory to work through.
Or perhaps it was just the color felt that was at arms-length of the screener at the time it was made. Something random like that... Regardless, it's a gorgeous and super-cool GA Tech piece. I personally love these off-color pennants. They are not all that rare, but are pretty nifty none-the-less. |
Could be that yellow and white are one of one the worst colors combinations for contrast. Although you would think they would have used a black background in that case.

I don't believe they put that much thought into it. If it looked attractive, that's about all that mattered. There is a big difference between the team's official uniform colors and a cheap pennant that may have cost a Quarter back then.
Not to mention, the Decision Maker (i.e. guy who made this pennant) probably earned about 50 cents an hour for his labor. It was a different world back then. |
