Why grading companies go under

No wonder why CGA is supposedly no longer in business...they graded really obvious fake cards.

As a side point...Lou looks extra squinty, as if he even doubts his own authenticity.

That is the scarce 34 Goudey "Diversity" Gehrig.
Also, looks like he might be wearing a monocle in the little pic at the bottom of the card. Really need more cards of players who wore a monocle.

LOL I didn't notice the monocle. An instant classic.

Love how the seller states he sent the same card to PSA and had grades of 5, 7 & 10.... would love to see the "10" :D

Brian

100% sure that was the actual business model.

Not sure what point this post is trying to make. How can it be a cautionary tale if the "company" was never actually a company in the first place? Seems to only be a basement hobbyist slab.

brianp-beme 12-23-2018 12:57 PM

No real point besides highlighting a ridiculous auction of a graded card from a company that, whether they ever really existed or it was just a home operation, slabbed a horribly fake 1934 Goudey Gehrig. This seller has other big dollar reprint cards slabbed by this 'company', so just a heads up and warning to not get suckered into purchasing just because the card is slabbed.

I was thinking the same thing. That's probably why they were in business in the first place.

And had they been upfront and put REPRINT on the labels they might have made a go of it. We need a good grading company to grade all of the fakes. Then we can also make a Reprint Registry. Just think of all of the fun, kids!!
