Help with a Buddy Lewis Bat
I’m looking for some help on a Buddy Lewis bat. Pictures are below. It’s a 125 with his branded signature, but it has a branded “BRAVES TRAINING”. I don’t know the weight but it’s 35 inches long. The know has L 5 branded but it’s very light. As far as I know, Lewis never played or coached for the Braves, so i’m a little lost.
I know nothing about bats. Is this a store model? I think Lewis’s career ended in 1949, is there a way to tell if this was made before or after? I would appreciate any insight. Thanks, Mike |
Sorry, for some reason i’m having trouble uploading the photos

Likely an index bat. Often seen are Colleges etc with no affiliation or tie to the named player on the bat.

Here are the scans

Here are the only scans I can manage to post. Do index bats have any value?

More photos. Any other opinions about this bat and any value?
Thanks, Mike |
The “Braves Training” is uniquely placed as compared to most index bats I’ve seen, in that the College name etc is usually below the player name.
If this is an index bat it would have interest from Senators collectors (as he played for them his whole career) and likely Braves collectors due to the reference to the team. Not sure what that value would be exactly and would like to hear from more knowledgeable collectors to rule out this being possibly a Lewis used bat that was stamped by the Braves (did Lewis coach with them)? “L5”’ on the knob and it measuring 35 inches suggest a possible store bat. Confusing! |
As far as I can tell, Buddy never played, coached or managed in the Braves system. It seems like a strange mixture of things.
