1957 Bill Russell Corner "Chip"
3 Attachment(s)
This card is really beautiful with near perfect centering and great color. The upper and lower right corners have what I would describe as a chip in the enamel ?? (not sure what the finish is) I am curious if this was common with sets of that era and if this would ever be considered repairable (probably stupid to even consider but can't hurt to ask)
Thanks Russ |

That’s weird. How does a corner that’s perfectly sharp lose paper like that???

Is that a resealed PSA case? Looks like the card was graded 20 years ago based on the cert #, but the hologram flip means it was reholdered 1-3 years ago. However, your close up shot make it look like it's been busted open and the card swapped out.
I don't want to believe PSA would have simply reholdered the card without downgrading it to a 3, no matter what the submitter wanted. And adding paper back to repair the paper loss would be altering the card and it should get a PSA AUTHENTIC ALTERED, making it count as a POOR 1 in the Set Registry. |
Interesting, it looks like corner wear, but really just the ink/paper chipping from the corners and not much other damage. With corner wear like that I do wonder how it is still graded a 7?
And as mentioned on your second question, no you do not want to repair that, as that will make the card considered altered and that would be an even bigger hit to value than those chipped corners. |
Wow, that is really well centered.

possibly pull from an overtightened screw down.

Corner Chip
What Todd mentioned is possible. I've seen it.
I have also seen scrapbooks where the cards were "taped" down using little circle stickers with just the corner tip of the card under the sticker. Remove them and the top layer of card usually comes off as you see here. |
FYI, the technical term for white coated paper stick is indeed 'enamelled paper.'

Re-slabbed Cards keep their original SN's This was in a very old PSA holder (probably pre 2000) when it was re-slabbed, thus the old Cert # A 3 ?? What grading school did you attend ? |
Two spots of paper loss on the front? I would be happy with a 3. I've gotten worse.

Hi Russ,
PM sent. Thanks |
That kind of wear is not treated as paper loss. I think today it gets a 6 or 6.5. Nice card.
