Reggie Jackson jerseys...
4 Attachment(s)
Guys...……….I'm looking for some help on these 2 'Reggie Jackson' jerseys. I'm thinking they're higher quality 'salesman samples', but maybe you'll have more information. Neither jersey has a year 'flag tag'. Both have light wear and a few minimal marks/stains.
The NY jersey is the correct manufacturer, but is not chain stitched with Reggie's name in the collar and is probably at least a size too small. The jersey is a high quality professional level shirt with everything sewn on. Would these have been available for retail sale back in the late 1970's to early 1980's? The A's pullover is a Rawlings and not the normal A's manufacturer of choice for gamers, McAuliffe. It is also a high quality professional caliber jersey with everything sewn on. I did find that Rawlings might have made the 'alternate' yellow jersey's for the A's in 1972, but they have horizontal names sewn on the back and yellow and green arm bands. Also, I think Jackson wore a size 42 during this time period. Any further information or opinions would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance...…...Matt |
I am not a uni guy but the NY shirt doesn't look like it has the quality of the A's shirt.

If that's a size 40 on the Rawlings shirt that's an immediate disqualifier.

thanks.

Leon, both jerseys are of the same, high quality and are definitely vintage. I'm just going to assume they're both retail or manufacturer 'sample' jerseys. Thanks for your responses. |
The A's one is definitely not real. It's period...so yes, probably a salesman sample.
FWIW, the Finley era A's jumped from manufacturer to manufacturer during those years, I'll presume depending on what was cheapest. A few years back, the A's fanfest had a storage full of old game worn and issued uniforms they were selling, all the way back to the 70's. Those earlier ones were the most mish-mosh pile of stuff I'd ever seen. Multiple makers, same season even. I wish I'd bought more. |
The Yanks is either a minor league jersey or a quality retail replica. A Major League issued jersey would be tagged in the tail, not the neck. And a salesman's sample would typically have the salesman's sample tag, not the pictured Wilson tagging, in the neck.
