Did I miss the thread?

Did I miss the thread talking about Heritage selling the #1 registered T206 set?

No. No one seems very interested in this.

swarmee 08-24-2018 04:03 PM

I haven't seen it discussed, but then, I thought the set would have 524 cards... ;-)

calvindog 08-24-2018 04:21 PM

Had Heritage included free parking at next year's National with every lot I suspect there'd be 2-3 threads on the auction.

Or a free dealer's badge.

The set is missing Wagner and Doyle (duh). It is also missing Fielder Jones hands on hips and Mordecai Brown Cubs shirt.

I've been looking for a high grade Brown Cubs shirt for a couple years. I was disappointed with the one that Memory Lane auctioned last summer. I thought this auction would be the one. :(

So the Plank is a PSA 7. Any guesses where it ends up. I'll guess more that $500K.

Rhotchkiss 08-24-2018 04:51 PM

Sean, that’s classic... I scoured the auction a few times looking for the Brown Cubs. So I learned two things (1) it’s not in this auction, and (2) you are looking for one; it’s probably higher on your list than mine, so no competition here until you fish your wish...

swarmee 08-24-2018 05:05 PM

Well, if he decommissioned the entire set, it's quite possible that they'll headline the next full auction.

Does Josh work at Heritage now? He left Huggins & Scott?

Dan,
I do not work for Heritage - it wasn't a plug for them; just that I got the email about it and figured it would have been discussed here with all of the knowledge and discussion regarding the 06 set that occurs here.

I am no longer with Huggins and Scott though and am working with Greg Morris Cards.

Josh

Imagine if there was free shipping.

It might hit 500 by tomorrow.

One can only imagine if it was REA. Heritage for some reason is largely dead to this board.

Ah, I thought people were joking with you about the free parking or dealer badges, I thought I missed the news that you had moved to Heritage. :) Although I did not know you had moved on from H&S. Congrats on your new job with Greg Morris cards.

Thanks Dan.

I'm probably gonna ask a stupid question but anyone know whose set this was? I checked the PSA site and it indicates it is Heritage's. Guessing that is a name change? Impressive set.

At one point Thomas Tull had the highest ranked set, not sure if someone topped that.

It is Don Louchios' set. I may looking at the Set Registry wrong, but it looks like this has been the top set for the last 15+ years.

Yeah it appears to have held top honors year after year. Thanks for the info. Looks like the gentleman "invested" wisely. As they say, buy and hold.

IMO, this is a historic offering. The time, effort and expense involved to put together the best T206 set on the planet is mind boggling. As I perused the auction, I reflected that; 1. collecting t206's at this level is a rich man's game,
2. the amount of bid capital already pledged is impressive, and who knows where it will end up, 3. that the condition quality of these cards, over 100 years old, is almost mystifying. How were they preserved in such pristine shape? 4. To replicate such a collection in the future will be almost impossible.

From someone who has handled, I would guess thousands of T206's, I am truly gobsmacked by this auction. To those bidding, good luck, and please don't cash in your 401k to play.
I bet the IRS will be watching this one closely.

But that's why I opened up a 401k in the first place. :(
