When you see prices like this do you automatically assume shenanigans?
So in my email notifications from auctionzip I get notice of this online sale.
General commodity level stuff, very similar to what I usually have. Then I look at prices so far with 3 days left... ...HOLY CRAP $350 BVG 4 1960 Mantle $225 BVG 4 1965 Mantle $450 BVG 5.5 1962 Mantle $550 BVG 4.5 1955 Bowman Mantle $275 BVG 4.5 1963 Mantle Tons more. It makes me leery of bidding on any of the reasonable cards. Am I paranoid? |
I think to myself... seriously what are these people thinking? and move on...:)
|
Are they all with the same seller?
|
It's an auction house
|
Were they centered?

All I can say is that a lot of people like to over pay for cards. I see it all the time with cards I try to bid on. They either don't know what the current value of the cards or are bidding based on what they see in Beckett.

wow
I sold a 1962 Topps Mantle psa 5.5 that was pretty nice for about $300. Maybe I should have sold it through that auction house if they can get $450+ for a bvg. I have occasionally overpaid for a card I want, but none of those are particularly hard to acquire.

When I see auctionzip, I think it's probably in a region of country bumpkins who aren't as knowledgeable about market value. So no, I don't assume shenanigans.
