Neat story Heritage 1952 Mantle PSA 8.5

Apologies if this has already been discussed or needs moved but I'm just not reading about it. I'll let the article do the speaking about this recent find of 1951 and 1952 cards of which the highest graded 1952 Mantle, PSA 8.5, is in Heritages current auction. Would an offer of $8000 in 1980 have been considered a strong offer? (This question stems from another article where consigner said a dealer offered him $8000 in 1980 and he turned it down)

Demand far exceeds supply on these. And my guess is that at some price commodity investors will pick up any slack .

The other thread was locked as it is a duplicate of this one. Big stories and close to pre-war aren't that bad on the front page on slow news days. ;)

Sorry about the dreaded double post my mistake. I was think the same thing that these are become the DP that they truly are. ( and not a rookie)

I think $8,000 would have been considered a strong offer in the early 1980's by any collector holding a Becket Price Guide as a reference ($1,000 mint). On the other hand, dealers doing the shows every weekend from Virginia to New York would know the offer was in the ballpark for that condition. In 1982 there were two in the auction at the Willow Grove (PA) show and they brought $10,000 and $8,000, much better than the Becket's $1,000.
