Dietsche Detroit Tigers
3 Attachment(s)
I finally completed the 1907-09 Dietsche Detroit Tigers set of postcards after years of pursuit. It consists of 29 different postcards ( 28 players + Team Card ). The scan shows all 3 Series. First Series consists of 16 cards with the fielding Cobb. Second series consists of 20 cards ( all names on front, 6 new players not included in first series) and Third series has 7 new postcards). See scans.

Congratulations. Not an easy set to piece together.

Very nice! Congrats!!
|
Very impressive to see them all together like that.

Congratulations
...on completing this noteworthy grouping !!! This is an impressive example of focusing on a goal. Such a tough issue. Does anybody have a similar accomplishment on the Chicago examples? If so it would be nice to see a separate thread showing them.

Awesome! What a great accomplishment! Congrats!

Congrats to the man who got me started on postcards. That is a tough set of cards to put together, and particularly in those grades.

Great set! Those Cobbs are going thru the roof. I am 2/3’s done with it. Still need the Cobb fielding and the team card and a couple of others. I hope to find a couple more at the National in a few weeks.

Awesome Job! Not as easy a set as one may think...that team card is really really tough!!!!!

Very awesome and very cool. Congrats!

Love these, amazing accomplishment! Like already mentioned, team card is very tough and shows Cobb next to Rastus which if you have read "A Terrible Beauty" (highly recommended) is super cool and an important card in the Cobb folklore. Fielding Cobb is of course a hobby gem too! Congrats, they look so good all together! |

Thanks for all the comments. I need to send the rest in for grading and keep them all PSA . Hope I don't have to wait months to get them back !
I believe the 1907 Dietsche Fielding Cobb is the most underrated or underpriced card in the market. It's Cobb, it's his Rookie Year, the card is very rare, it was replaced with his batting postcard very early in printing. I only see demand always greater than the supply. I wish I had more than one of them. |
Congrats Mike! Great way to collect a great team, they look fabulous together.

Mike, congratulations of completing the Dietsche Tigers postcard sets. Quite an accomplishment!
As I'm sure you know, there are a few small differences in hobby checklists about exactly which cards fall within each Tigers subset (especially differences between the 1908 and 1909 subsets). So this would be an ideal time to confirm the accuracy of the checklists and "set the record straight." Because the images in this post are very difficult to read the names, could you please identify the players in the images. We will be happy to then update the Old Cardboard website to reflect the correct Set Checklists and Galleries. Thanks much for your contributions to the hobby. We look forward to your input. Happy Collecting, Lyman |

Lyman: The infomation and all photos have been sent to you. Please list on your website. Been trying to confirm if the Detroit Team Photo is actually part of the set, but haven't been able to confirm with any evidence. If anyone does have any evidence please provide the information and sources. My personal opinion is that it is not part of the set but a "stand alone" issue. The design etc. is really different.
By 1909 it seems that the postcards were not very popular or big sellers. In 1907 Detroit and Chicago Cubs were issued during the World Series, in 1908 just Detroit and not the Cubs and 1909 only a few players which were not previously issued and no 1909 Pittsburgh set who they played in the World Series. See scan for checklist, please contact to confirm additional variations. Thanks |
