Which is better for grading 1920's Caramel cards?

Also, is it better to do authentic for very low condition cards that aren't missing any paper?

I’d go psa most on here will probably say Sgc.

I don't believe you choose Authentic, that is just the assigned grade when there is extensive damage so the card is essentially below a 1, or it is because the card has been tampered with such as trimmed, recolored, etc...but is an authentic card.

I like PSA personally....

Easy decision..
 

SGC hands down.

What do you plan do to with the cards?
If you plan to sell soon, PSA
If you plan to keep them, whichever slabs you prefer

Exactly, depends what you value.
1) Do you want the most accurate grade?
2) Do you want the highest resale value?
3) Do you want to track your set collection progress on the most used website?
4) Do you want the most attractive frame/case? Or the most difficult to break case?
5) How much are you willing to spend per card, or are you willing to submit your cards with others to get a lower per unit grading cost?

I would go with SGC, unless you want to wait several months for PSA to get around to grading them.

Also, with SGC, when you submit your cards, there is a place on the submission form that allows you to have your cards graded as "authentic". If you don't check that box your card may be returned to you without being slabbed.

To your question about should you take a low grade or an AUTH, most collectors prefer to have a number grade, even if it's low.
PSA will also slab cards as Authentic if you put "PLEASE SLAB ALL IF AUTHENTIC" on your submission form. Otherwise, if they cards are trimmed or recolored, or fixed in some way, they will return them unslabbed.

PSA is your best bet as they will bring the best price. No one plans on selling their cards, but eventually we all do.

For resale value unquestionably PSA. For quicker turnaround and a grade more consistent with what you expect (assuming you have a trained eye and have examined it thoroughly with loupe and black light) go with SGC. Seems like my cards always come back from PSA at least a grade or two lower than what I expected, especially since they’ve gone to the new hologram holders.

I have heard several times over now that PSA seems to be tougher on the grade. That said, would you rather have a card in a, say, PSA 5 slab, or would you rather have the same card in an SGC 80 (6) slab?

Depends on the card......a T206..the SGC.....anything post-war....probably the PSA.

I'd take the better card. Trust your own judgment over that of someone with no additional qualifications who spends but a minute assigning a grade.

I have never sent a card in for grading so take this for what it's worth.

Imo, the tougher, more consistent grading company is SGC. PSA brings bigger dollars when selling, no doubt about it, but their consistency is all over the map.

Many times I have seen much better looking cards in SGC slabs that I have in higher graded PSA slabs.

With the many shady PSA stories I have read and seen here, I think someday, once people finally start to realize what PSA is all about, SGC will be the go to company.......maybe?

Here is true reality from just a few days ago...I had a T206 Larry Doyle graded SGC 88 and sold it for $825, person got a fantastic card for the value. Beautiful card, looked even nicer than the grade....If it had been a PSA 8, the card would sell for $2000-2200. So here's the dilemma, Submit it to PSA in the SGC case, or grab your balls and crack it and submit it raw? If you submit a high grade T206 SGC encapsulated card, good luck getting anything better than 1 grade less, which is about where this Doyle sold for (PSA 7)...Submit it raw, God only knows how lucky you might get, especially with the uncertainty of graders. But, the odds are way stacked against you. You might get a hungover grader that gives it a grade of A....I hate to say this, but I truly believe it's all about who you know....and dare I say pay....

I would go with SGC for the simple reason that I like their capsules better.

Is this before or after they changed them?

I like the old labels better but still like them both better than PSA.

Have you even seen the new labels?? The ones causing all the hubbub?

I have seen the images. I think that the black framing still presents better than PSA.
