RR Auctions

Maybe I'm late to the game, but can anyone tell me anything about RR Auctions? Are they new or did I just miss them? They seem to have some nice stuff.

They have been in business a long time as an autograph auction company, mainly. I sat next to one of their VPs at a Heritage Live Auction several years back. We had a great conversation. They have advertised a few times over the years. Great stuff in the current auction and thanks to RR Auctions for allowing Net54 to help spread the word. From all I know they are a good company.... I trust them very much, myself.

Hey Gary,

Been around forever. Bob Eaton has been in the autograph business for several decades.......

drcy 06-16-2018 06:49 PM

Been around for a long time, but are autograph specialists. This is their first sports only auction.

GaryPassamonte 06-16-2018 06:51 PM

I now do remember RR Auctions from many years ago. Thanks.

I’ve bought from them. They’ve had sports items in their auctions for years but as others have mentioned, this is their first auction that is exclusively sports.

Several years back they hired me to authenticate and catalog their photograph auction (linked below), because that was outside of their areas of expertise. A single-owner collection of the most incredible selection of photographs I've seen. I asked them what they wanted me to do, and they said "Everything." Being one who likes to do things himself. that's what I wanted to hear.

RR Auction has been in business since the mid 1980s and were strictly fixed price catalog sales until the early 2000s and then became strictly auction . This is their first sports only auction , with plans for another possibly this fall or winter.
I have known and bought autographs from Bob for 30 years and and as a favor to him I have consigned some items to this inaugural sports auction. I also mentioned to him about the Net 54 community and the great people here and recommended him to advertise here .

Hey guys,

I just got the latest sports auction catalog from RRAuctions. Some awesome items there.

I noticed that there were some items that had been listed in the last major sports auction. I looked back and don't see the old listings looking at past auctions.

I hadn't noticed any info about Reserves on the auctions and was wondering if anyone knew anything

From their catalog...
"Lots may be subject to a confidential reserve which is the minimum price below which the lot will not be sold. Consignors may not bid on their own lots or property. RR Auction may, from time to time, bid on items it does not own.

From time to time, I may decide to bid on their auctions (but now that I know about their time to time policy, somehow I probably won't find the time).

As for lot# 8309 Ruth 1920's Societe anonyme PC......please read old threads here on the item concerning its authenticity and decide whether or not.
Not sure it RR needs to be contacted about it???

Brian do you mean to say you will not bid because they say they may bid? If they said they do not bid then you would be OK with them? Why do you care?

I also “care” and will not bid with any auction house that can also bid on items. That is a bullshit practice in my opinion and is totally unacceptable.

How can you not care is more like the question?

brianp-beme 10-30-2019 07:19 PM

As upstanding collectors we should hopefully all care. It is slightly better that they note that from 'time to time' they will bid on items in their own auctions instead of doing it without acknowledging, but I think it is within all our rights to vote with our wallets, and announce our positions, if we don't like this practice.

And I probably wouldn't have been bidding anyway, but why not try highlight and root out a less desirable aspect of this hobby when it comes to auction houses?

And a whole plethora of more reasons not to do business with this AH!

Rhotchkiss 10-30-2019 08:12 PM

Can you post a link? I don’t see any google search results . Thanks

Edited - never mind, I just googled RR and lawsuit. Interesting reads indeed.

Leon 10-31-2019 07:19 AM

The first site that pops up, autograph planet is run by, I think, Travis Roste, banned long ago from this forum. He collaborates with Peter Nash who is one of the biggest criminals in the hobby. Their time will come.

I don't know how anyone collects autographs on anything other than official documents (and would still need to be careful.)

I have only had good experiences with RR auctions. But then they have been an advertiser and will probably be one in the future too. The stuff in their current auction is great. I am sure I will be bidding.

The lot in the RR Auction (Link is the exact same card shown by Greenmonster in this thread:

http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=183773

I believe most posters decided that the card was fake, so buyer beware if anyone was interested in this card in the RR auction.
