1940 Kansas City Blues - Unknown issue?

Anyone know what these are? Can't find a listing for a 1940 KC Blues issue anywhere.

Dan -
I’m a KC guy but I’ve gotta admit I haven’t seen those before. Rob M |
A guy posted them to a facebook group I belong to and he's been collecting KC minor league memorabilia for 25 years and had not seen them before. Maybe a newly discovered issue? Would be pretty big for Rizzuto collectors.

They are neat with a caveat as to what they are :). What kind of stock are they on? These might very well be a legit issue, which is awesome,
but they also look like they could have been cut from something and had the names and team added much after the fact. |
agree with Leon
I wouldn't bet against them being a retro issue from the 1970s-

Looks very much like a Bill Dickey photo-card I had (have?). I am thinking retro-issue from the 60s-70s. The 1st name on the unknown Phil Rizzuto: why would he have a first name and not the others (except 1)? Unless the set creator knew that Rizzuto was a star.

I was fortunate enough to have lived in the KC area and buy a lot of KC blues items. One thing about the cards is they were always issued while the players were with the team from what I always found. Would love to know if there is Sauk, Bauer, Mantle, Skowren, ect. Some 10 or so years back I had a KC Blues autograph book I sold that had pre rookie sigs of several HOF'ers and some very obscure Negro League players. Posted that on the autograph side under pup6913.
Not sure if any of this can help but I hope there is something for you Dan |
They were not mine. I would have liked to have gotten them, but it looks like the owner listed them up on eBay yesterday and someone hit the BIN.
|
Photography isn't very sharp. I don't think they're first generation images.
|
I would agree as well with packs. I saw them on eBay, thought about it...but they don't look like type 1's too me either.
