Project Completed. What’s next?
After years of going for these, I have finally assembled all 13 Bond Bread Jackie rookies! As can be seen from the number of 1s and even an SGC, I don’t care too much about the registry [emoji23]
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...3d23963070.jpg My problem is I don’t know what to collect next. This set has always jumped out at me in terms of rarity and the iconic player aspect. I’ve done some research on what I think I’d like to pursue, but I’d like to hear some suggestions from the board. What are some of your favorite sets that offer rarity, hall of famers, and is actually attainable? Thanks for any suggestions! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
congrats...and I'd say your timing was/is perfect!!!!!!! there are many sets that fit your requirements. what era set do you want to collect? you could continue the theme of only collecting sets of a given player...ie.59 fleer williams, fro joy ruth, ruth candy?

Old gold Jackie Robinson
The two Old Gold Jackie Robinson’s seem like a nice easyish companion to your Bond Bread set. Well done by the way.

Congrats Cole, that is an awesome accomplishment. Good luck on your next endeavor

I’ve always favored ‘33 Goudey. It’s got a ton of HOF’ers (4 Ruths, 2 Gehrigs, etc). The commons are relatively cheap in mid-grade. It’s an iconic set that will probably never fall out of favor. It won’t take as long or demand as much funds as The Monster. Should be a solid investment. And then there is that damn elusive Lajoie that makes completing the set so difficult. I know it was a fun set for me to complete. Except for the Lajoie of course...LOL

Awesome set! I’d like to put it together myself. Congrats!

Nicely done, congrats!

Congrats! How about the 55 double header set? Lots of star power and underrated in my opinion!

Love it Cole. As someone who's dad followed Jackie since playing for the Montreal Royals, he was always revered in my home city.
Congrats on a great accomplishment. I also love the fact you are doing this because you want to, not because of some stupid Registry competition. |
Congrats man!! That's a great, tough run. My suggestion along a similar note is maybe a run of Bazooka Mantles (59-68). I once completed it. They are good looking cards, reasonably priced, and there are some toughies. It's even tougher if you go for no authentics (they don't grade unless cut correctly). Anyway, great accomplishment!

Congrats, Cole.
What's next ..... I suggest you go for the complete 1947 BOND BREAD (48 cards). http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...ookiestars.jpg Followed by 1949 LEAF, 1949 and 1950 BOWMAN, 1952 and 1953 TOPPS Jackie Robinson cards. TED Z T206 Reference . |
Well done! Any 50s food issue might be fun to go after along with what Orlando said with the Bazookas. Another set i've always been partial too is the Home Run Derby which is full of HOFers.

Thanks everyone. Definitely would consider any of the oddball 50s sets. I was also thinking about caramel sets. I think E95 looks like it is a very doable one with plenty of HOFs. Could someone confirm?
|
Here's an idea I was kicking around; HOF rookies, I saw play; or played in my lifetime. Multi-Sport; So depending on your age that could be an easy and inexpensive pursuit or a forget about it type project. Or how about your top ten at each position, etc. If your looking for an easy vintage set anything in the 50's/60's is easily attainable, depending on your standards.

If thinking prewar. Then there are many postcard sets which are loaded with HOFers. I know another member (Steven) just got done completing the PC796 set. You might want to look at that one or a set like that.
Here is what what they look like. |
1948 Leaf is fun and challenging
|
Amazing set. Congrats!
|
Why bother with a set? You like Jackie Robinson, so why not do a player collection and chase after his oddball and regional 1940s-1950s issues? There are quite a few floating around out there.
|
Very cool. I had a lot of fun putting together '50 Bowman. Fairly inexpensive with a great looking Jackie!
