Trivia Time (x 3):
Honor System - no peaking.
1.) Who are the last three players with as many as 70 stolen bases in a season? 2.) Maury Wills stole104 bases in 1962 and when he led the league again the next year, who was second in the NL? 3.) Name the four players who have accumulated at least 700 At-Bats in a single season. . |
I think Ellsbury did it once. Not sure of the others. Assume Vince Coleman is too far back.
|
On at bats Ichiro must be one. Juan Pierre?
|
1) Rickey Henderson, Vince Coleman, Rock Raines
2) Lou Brock 3) Ichiro Suzuki, Roberto Alomar, Paul Molitor, Richie Ashburn |
The ONLY two correct answers so far are Jacoby Ellsbury (70 SB in 2009) & Ichiro Suzuki (704 ABs in 2004)..
Keep Trying! . |
I think Dave Cash had 700 ABs once.

Nope...would you believe 699 was his most? |
I thought of two more lead off men who stole lots of bases.
Kenny Lofton Jose Reyes I'll submit these two fellas for 700 ABs and most recent to have 70 SBs in a season. Come on, one of them has to check one of those boxes. :D |
1. Dee Gordon, Billy Hamilton
2. Dont know why this would be significant....Pete Rose? 3. Willie Wilson, Ron LeFlore Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk |

Reyes - 78 steals in 2007 Lofton's 70-SB seasons were prior ('93 & '96) to the three I have in mind. SO, NOW WE HAVE THREE CORRECT ANSWERS: Ellsbury & Reyes had two of the last three 70-SB seasons. Ichiro Suzuki had 704 At-Bats in 2004. WE STILL DON'T HAVE THE 1963 NL Stolen-Base Runner-Up. -------------------------------- |
[QUOTE=Hxcmilkshake;1771568]1. Dee Gordon, Billy Hamilton
2. Dont know why this would be significant....Pete Rose? 3. Willie Wilson, Ron LeFlore None of these. OOOPS! CORRECTION: Willie Wilson had 705 ABs in 1980. . |
Jimmy Rollins steal 70?

no, he did not...however...(hint, hint) . |
I could've sworn willie wilson had 700 ab's

You're correct, Scott- My Mistake - see post #11. So, now we have two out of the three for question #1 & two of the four for question #3. |

Maybe Reyes in that category as well? |
I think Juan Samuel as a Phillie had over 700 ABs. And maybe another Phillie got there too? Jimmie?
|
The 1963 ? Is making me a lil nuts....Mays?

Rollins set the record for ABs in a season with 716 in 2007 Hank Aaron, indeed, stole 31 bases in '63, second to Maury's 40. Randall- You were correct in recalling that Juan Samuel had 701 ABs in 1984. As 'Tennis13' stated, the last one will be even more difficult. Impress your friends and neighbors...keep working on it.:) |
And the Final Answer is...
Scott Posednik.

I know Kirby Puckett was close a few times. I just don't remember if he ever had 700 AB's.

Scott- the easiest way to find something fairly obscure like that is to go BBR, click on the leader board, then year-to-year-top-ten. Now that my 'secret' is out, I'll bet we have a lot more good, if short-lasting trivia questions in the future. It also helped, in this case, to focus on two stats that don't seem to get enough attention these days....unlike exit velocity and launch angle...neither of which, I might add, are not recorded in mass as yet. ,. |
Drat, I'd have guessed Posednik. He was always running when I watched a Brewers game.
Ben Sheets was tremendous that season. He was finally healthy. The Brewers sucked, as did his win-loss record because he got no run support. He struck out 264 batters and walked only 32. |
