T205 "Rehel" Oaks- Which Do You Prefer?

Trying to decide which of these to keep. For this exercise we we'll say the backs are equal. This is what happens when you are a collector trying to do a presentable set. I said I was going to quit the upgrade game but it's so fun.

The one on the right for me.

Cozumeleno 04-10-2018 08:16 AM

One on the right for me. I prefer the border color of the one on the left but it looks like it has a few more flaws.

sterlingfox 04-10-2018 08:25 AM

Definitely the one on the left for me - much sharper, better registered image than the one on the right.

pherbener 04-10-2018 08:28 AM

I like the one on the left. The other one seems too washed out for me.

tschock 04-10-2018 08:28 AM

The one on the left. I prefer better registration and color than cleaner borders. It is similar to buy the card (player), not the holder (border). ;)

Cat 04-10-2018 08:33 AM

The one on the Right seems to have those "far away eyes." I voted for the other one.

One on the right for me. Considering your set the right one should in just based on the left one having a crease and more boarder issues

+1

And is that a wrinkle up from the bottom border?

It is a wrinkle but I should add I don't mind a small, inconsequential wrinkle. It's not a high grade set.

Both scans being equal, the one on the right, - background color is brighter and sets off the portrait. Card on the left, registration is too off, for me.. (Not that I'm 'picky' or anything).

On the other hand...did you mean Rebel Oakes?;)

TUM301 04-10-2018 09:55 AM

Close one Leon. I like the borders on the right and the player image on the left. Usually with 205`s is more about the borders (so easily chipped etc) but would still go left on this choice. Hey, good "problem" to have sir.

commishbob 04-10-2018 10:50 AM

I voted for the one on the left thinking 'well, this is close' but the more I look at them the more convinced I am that the left image is much superior. Richer colors, better details. It has a few more condition flaws but I think it's a beautiful example of the set.

tiger8mush 04-10-2018 11:41 AM

left

bolder colors (look at his hair), sharper image, and the borders seem to be ever so slightly larger than the one on the right

Jacklitsch 04-10-2018 12:31 PM

One on the right. The ding on the upper right corner of the one on the left bothers me.

BTW, it's Rebel.

T206Collector 04-10-2018 12:36 PM

It's funny - I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I am shocked that anyone would choose the one on the left. I collect baseball cards, not photographs. I'll take sharp corners and no creases every day over a slightly deeper/focused registration.

I was only going with the card. I knew it was Rebel. I put some exclamation marks up there to help albeit after the fact..... I'll say my thoughts on the 2, later. Interesting perspectives so far.

slipk1068 04-10-2018 01:36 PM

I voted for the one on the right. It is creases-free and looks cleaner. I do, however, like the fat borders on the one on the left.

Big Six 04-10-2018 01:40 PM

The one on the right. The left is off register (see hat) and looks dirty. Better borders on the right, too!

They're slightly different, so I'd keep both.

brianp-beme 04-10-2018 02:33 PM

The one on the left...the blank stare and facial coloration of the one on the right makes Mr. Oakes look like he has an upcoming appointment with the mortician.

I'll say left. Right looks seasick, though I probably only notice that because they're displayed side-by-side.

Paul S 04-10-2018 03:03 PM

Ditch'm both and get a third!:D

Vintagecatcher 04-11-2018 02:30 AM

The one on the right is nicer!

I prefer the one on the right because it is brighter, and the one on the left has a tiny stain on the left of his hat, wrinkle on the center of bottom border, and a ding on the top right corner.

I don't care for raw cards so given that I'd select the one on the left, if however, the one on the right graded out the same as theone on the left I'd select the one on the right instead.

bauce 04-11-2018 08:30 AM

The one on the left has deeper color.
The one on the right has a better registry alignment.

I would go with the better alignment.

Wite3 04-11-2018 09:06 AM

Left...better register and clearer color. Dont care about creases, stains, etc. if the card looks washed out like the one on the right.

+1, In the end this is the one I went with. Thanks for all of the feedback.
