Getting cigarette smell out of game used hat
Hi all,
Purchased an allegedly game used hat on eBay. It showed up and smells of cigarette smoke. I messaged the buyer who offered to refund me in full and let me keep it, which works for me. Ideally, I'd like to display the hat with my collection as it was a very short lived style and predates the mass production of game used stuff. Any thoughts/experience getting rid of the smell? I am going to try airing it out outside, but wasn't sure if there were other options? Thanks, Chris |

I have used this method to remove smoke / musty smell from paper items with good success. Baking soda doesn't mask odor, it absorbs it.
* Dump a box of baking soda in the bottom of a tupperware container big enough to hold the item. * Put a wire rack or something in the container to suspend the item above the baking soda. * Place the item in the container and seal it tight. * Give it a few weeks to a month and check the item. If there is still smell, replace the baking soda with a fresh supply and give it more time. This method should work to remove most, if not all, of the nasty smell. Good luck! |

Back when I restored vintage felt hats, we discussed this problem in the Fedoralounge forum - you might check it out, as those guys don't let anything rest until they've figured it out.
