Koester cards
 

Brian Van Horn posted a trimmed Koester in his February offerings and it reminded me that I may have 3 similar. Picked them up maybe around 1990. See scans. Blank backs , heavy stock. The De Vormer has the capital E in DE, Roth was in the set and Harper as well although Harper is in both this set and E-121. I guess these were possibly trimmed from a poster?? Any Koester experts want to weigh in?

I don't know of a poster. Looks to me someone just trimmed the cards down.

I have Chicken Hawks and Bill Cunningham on the thick stock and had Mike Gonzalez at one time. I do believe they were cut from a poster and SGC will not grade them even as authentic Koester bread cards.

1. Thick stock + Handcut = Poster (used to promote the bakery, the cards and the first Giant/Yankee World Series in 1921).

2. Thin stock + Machine Cut = "True" Koester Bread cards, D383s I believe.

3. Some cards are identical to their E121 counterparts as they are in both sets. I do not think these cards common to both sets can be distinguished from each other.

4. The D383s also include players & coaches on the Yankees and Giants that were not part of the "parent" set. These cards are unique to the Koester bread issue, but also can be handcut and on the thick stock of the poster. The following is an example of one these "unique" additions, but Jesse was cut from a poster.

5. The real D383s are valued roughly three times as much as their poster board "brothers". I believe there are 52 cards in the set and on the poster, but i have never seen them all or an intact poster.

This is my story and I'm sticking to it, but I could be wrong.:eek:

If know one has seen a poster why do we think it exist?

I am only one person. I cannot speak for the other 7 billion.:eek:

I would have thought that if one poster exist it would be on Google.. the other 7 million. Especially if a guy name Babe Ruth was on it.

I acquired a bunch of Koesters back in the 1980s from an old man who told me the cards came from a candy he used to buy made by a company named " Kerrs". Never found any truth to that statement but I just thought I would put it out there. Maybe this issue was distributed by another food company.

Just noticed this thread and thought I'd post one of my absolute favorite pieces, a souvenir Koester Bakery album, filled with a complete set of cards.
