Any Olympic Experts Here? Need Help with Item.
2 Attachment(s)
Hey guys, I have a ring that I cannot identify as to what it is. Seems to have the Olympic rings & flame logo and the number 100 below it but that's it. Nothing inside the ring and just an eagle on a black background on the front. Does anyone know what this is and possibly a value?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, Tony |
1996 was the hundredth anniversary of the modern olympics, and sure enough that is the 1996 logo above the #100

Thanks Scott, at least somewhere to start.

Unfortunately I thought it would unravel pretty quickly, but damned if I can find anything else.
|
Me neither. I can't find zip about it. Oooh maybe it's RARE! Not likely with my luck!
|
German or Austrian souvenir from ATL games perhaps? Any hallmarks?
|
No markings at all. Eagle on the front, logos on the sides (same on both sides).

nothing inside the band?

This ring is not worth much. The 1996 Olympic games were the most or second most marketed games, 1984 being the other. If you paid for the proper license you could use the logo on many items. Any item that was legally manufactured to be marketed in the U.S. would need to have printed or stamped on it the statute for use of the Olympic Rings and games logo - 36 U.S. Code 380. This statute gives the USOC full control over the Olympic rings and appropriate logos. Being that there are no markings and this is clearly a poorly made item I would say it was manufactured in China and probably sold on ebay as an Olympic ring. I've seen similar rings with that same eagle top and faux onyx being sold with pseudo military insignias and the such on the band. Look in the coupons you get in the mail or Publishers Clearing House and you will see the same ring. It is also made of low quality composite metal. The ones I saw for the 1996 games were made in 14kt gold.
Olympic expert, not necessarily. I know what I know and have been buying, selling and collecting Olympic memorabilia since the 1980's. |
Michael, thanks for the info. I appreciate your time in explaining it. I kind of figured it was an item not worth much, now I know. If anyone has any interest in it, let me know and I'm sure we can work out some kind of deal.

Tony, glad to help.
