1993 topps jeter - real or fake
4 Attachment(s)
I have some concerns about the regular version- not the gold version . It's the top card in the photos . Any input would be appreciated
Thanks |
Looks to be wider than the Gold edition one. Maybe sheet cut? I don't know that this card was ever reprinted without some additional text on the back. Doesn't really look fake.

Wouldn't this be a pretty weird card to counterfeit? You can buy a box of 1993 Topps for 25 bucks.
|
Yea, I've never, ever even heard of this card being counterfeited. You buy a box so cheaply, why would you counterfeit this?
|
The card is signed with a 93 style signature . That to me looks dead on . The card stock is a much brighter white and there is a lot of graininess to print .

Ah, so that's the missing piece of the puzzle. I don't think the card is fake. If the card is fake, however, 95% of the value is in the authentic Jeter autograph. So who really cares about the $5 card at that point?
|
From the photo the card looks bad to me. It could look different in hand. Maybe someone made the card to get autographed instead of buying one, I just done that exact thing.
|
Thanks for the opinions . Much appreciated.

If this card was faked, it would have had to have been done in 1993 with this style signature. Also the card was worthless at that point in time, so who would possibly fake it. Also I don't know if fakes were that advanced in early 90s and why would you do of some prospects worthless base card in the year of issue.
A base jeter card in 1993 could probably had for .25 c or less Only other option is if it's a modern fake that doesn't have live ink on the card. Inspect the signature in hand to ensure it's live ink and not printed as part of card. |
Certainly seems live. It's just an odd thing . Signature doesn't bother me , the seller has sold me good stuff in the past so I don't think hes trying to rip me off , it's just weird cause in person , it's certainly different than what you would expect .
Thanks for the input . Matt Quote:
